And yet GE just moved its headquarters to Boston. At that level taxes are not a major concern. Fretting about a move over Taxes is such a middle class trait.

First and foremost, Amazon execs are obviously smarter than TD member Shenanigans, and I'm not complaining per se about them selecting Boston over Nashville as I don't even live there anymore, and as it's not as bad as DC, SF, NYC, but I've just always been baffled that more large companies don't recognize the cost of living (and thus, cost of acquiring talent/salary expectation) when they make these types of decisions, or why it doesn't play a larger role. Payroll is one of the top cost centers in any organization, and I feel that locating in a place that has a higher cost of living is short-sighted as it generally requires levying a higher price to consumers and thus invites more competition.
As an arbitrary number, $75K in Boston doesn't mean the same thing as $75K in Nashville, or Austin, or Dallas. You're attracting a different kind of candidate with those numbers when you locate in a city with a higher cost of living. Not to mention, they're talking about adding this x thousands of people, even after accounting for transfers from Seattle.

COL was the reason I actually believed Atlanta makes more sense than Boston. East coast access with a massive airport but a much lower COL.

Bezos bought the Washington Post. It's quite obvious what his politics are. I don't think he tries to hide it. It's why I'm buying more from walmart.com with their competition now.

I get what you're saying, but to me, Charlotte fits the bill much more than Atlanta as it relates to talent pool, east coast, access to major international airport, and overall COL.

But calling Boston a shitty city with absolutely zero reasoning is just stupid.
It consistently ranks as one of the best cities in the country. So please, feel free to explain why it's a shitty city and Amazon is making a bad decision.

It ranks as one of the best cities because the metrics used to rank "best cities" are cherry picked to favor coastal cities. Not that I blame the people pushing the metrics, since they tend to be concentrated in those very same coastal cities. There's a reason why there is a massive shift of population and industry to the midwest and sunbelt, and it has the coasts scrambling to stem the hemorrhage.

Also the headquarters of UPS and they could cherry pick people from Home Depot, Delta, Coke, etc.
