I was on Lake Texoma and I saw 3 different boats, at 3 different times and location.

All operated by white couples with white kids.

They were all blasting Cardi B

It was at that time that I realized that our society was doomed.

My daighter and her friends are obsessed with oversized band t-shirts from Urban Outfitters. Daughter has a Led Zeppelin, an Allman Brothers, and a Van Halen shirt. I'm not sure she could name a single song by any of them. They're simply fashion statements.

She is really into 80's new wave and alternative music though. The Smiths, REM, The Cure, etc.

And then almost exactly a year later, Blind Melon self titled album released on September 22, 1992. Which is a fricking masterpiece in and of itself.

Saw a video of a young black guy on youtube learning that Metallica was a band and not a brand of fashion tshirts.

Autotune and the lack of actual musicians using actual instruments to make actual music. Freddie Mercury called this a long time ago.

There are bands still out there that will rock your face off. The fact Prince died was a huge blow.

Get off my lawn while im at it I guess.

Pop was around well before 1991. Not sure if you’re being serious or not.

Anyone who complains about lack of good stuff hasn't spent five minutes on youtube, spotify, bandcamp, etc.
And anyone who says that wasn't alive and able to experience the Rock and Roll Renaissance reemergence of the 90's. Yeah, it's easier to download and purchase an album today. You can even choose which songs you want and don't have to download the entire album. But in the 90's, the amount of quality artists was astounding compared to today. And you still had the same amount of indie label bands back then that you do today. And really, I'd argue that the indie label bands back then were better and more plentiful than today's selection. Put it this way, Nirvana and Soundgarden were both indie label bands (SubPop).

No, I've just learned to avoid the pop music the major labels force upon us. Lots of great indie and alternative music still being made today.

While not as good as early 90’s rock…..2000’s rock had some great bands.

Screamer rock kinda killed the genre IMO

I HIGHLY suggest the documentary "Sound City" for more insight into this renaissance. After you watch that one, watch the "Muscle Shoals" documentary.

I always just chuckle to myself when people, in response to how awesome the 90s were/are, say oh everyone is nostalgic about their high school and college years.

To quote Bobby Hebert, yeah but no. The 90s were ridiculously awesome, especially when it came to what happened musically.

Ha! I totally forgot about that. For some reason I had to cycle through every single demo just to see. Some were great new artists but a lot was just weird (to me).

There is lots good music being made today. Plenty of bands playing instruments for those complaining otherwise.

You wont find these bands on the radio or in main stream. You have to put a little effort in and be willing to try new things. Listen to an album of a band you heard about.

I was alive for it. Started college around that time. The amount of good music being made today is on par with that era, those bands just hit at the right time when the masses had tired of hair bands that had dominated mainstream rock the previous 5 or so years.

Pearl Jam’s “Ten”
Debuted with no fanfare. Nobody knew who they were. That's why I got to see them at Tipitinas for a few bucks and then they were the opening act for a show that had Smashing Pumpkins and RHCP for $15 at the municipal auditorium.

If by "on par" you mean "severely lacking" then ok.

As was I. Freshman at LSU in 1992. Football sucked back then, but the music scene and shows you could go to was popping.
