Worried is a strong word. I was mildly concerned. But the fact of the matter is, my old man strength made him back down and speed off. That's a fact, and really all that matters.

Mom legally put the money in MY name so it is mine and i don't have to do a damned thing for anyone else with the money or answer to anyone about what i do with it.

When my dad had a stroke and was in the ICU my uncle, who was also to be the executor of my dad's estate, got him to sign a power of attorney and then proceeded to have his name added to all of my dad's bank accounts before he died.

Once he did pass away, the probate attorney my uncle was required by the state to hire explained that legally the money in those accounts belonged to my uncle and he could do whatever he wanted with it. But my uncle didn't do what you're doing, he was actually a decent human being and split ALL of the money equally among the heirs, exactly as stated in my dad's will. So, before getting high and mighty about what you can and can't do with the money that's now solely in your name you should remember that just because something is legal that doesn't necessarily make it right.

I cannot believe the amount of serious replies to the extremely obvious troll thread.

I have my mother on my mantle. She didn't like the outdoors so every now and then I spread her ashes on my carpet.

Then I vacuum her back up.

Is this from the picture where she was wearing the Chalmette Reeboks and Daisy Dukes? Was she standing on the side of the house?

I don't remember it.

When you spend the money, whatever you buy becomes community property but the money is yours.

Unless something has changed in recent years this is correct. An inheritance is not community property until the money is spent. I went through this with my first wife.

I'm confused. Your mother. You brought presents for her kids. So your brothers and sisters?? Why aren't y'all just splitting it evenly ?

Sounds like a good plan.

Immediately inherit a bunch of money and start spending it on stupid material shite.

I'm sure the grand kids were thrilled with their engraved bracelets.

GK sounds like the type to end up on those specials on tv about people blowing all their money after winning the powerball.

I joke(partially) with my wife that I want my ashes split 4 ways. 1/4 to each child. I don't see a problem with that.

The Christmas gift idea is a great one. My mom did the same when her mother died for us since we were very young.

In short...you do you, then tell him to get his head out of his arse.

What is this compound you speak of

The "compound" (aka " the hundred acre wood") is where I live. Our family owns about 100 acres and 4 generations of our family lives on it. .

I confess I am amused when it is called the compound or the hundred acre wood.

Naw, besides the cash mom left insurance policies, a house, other property and investments. I doubt we will be going broke anytime soon.

Still Curious:

Did mom leave you the money in a will or were you just cosigner on the checking account?

No will. Mom took care of dividing things up and putting them in our names before she died. So the state doesn't get a penny.

For those questioning how a woman with Alzheimer's could be of a sound mind to do so, we had a court hearing where she was judged competent to do so. She was in the early stages if the disease and wanted to take care of things while she could.

However, having seen what Alz had done to her family members and knowing what her future would be, I truly think she died of a broken heart. She suffered greatly and as her daughter it was heart-wrenching to watch her suffer so.

I also had a legal advocate (and a lawyer) for her to ensure that i was doing the right thing in everything that I did.

As for the "paperweight" of mom. She chose it. It is actually an handmade glass orb that she thought was quite beautiful.

Her other request was that we take her ashes, put them in a small pirogue, put it to sail in Lake Pontchartrain and set it on fire. (Like a viking funeral).

My mama was an unconventional person and doing such things with her ashes amused her.

In their 80's and going strong. Pops still works at the family store and MawMaw stays just as busy. Just last month she saw a 6 ft copperhead snake on the porch and killed him with a shovel. MawMaw is badazz. Don't mess with Mawmaw, lol!!
