I think it's grown into something bad.
When it was a fun holiday for kids, celebrated in the context of a society that still basically celebrated life and the good, it was OK.
In 2019, as a holiday for adults, celebrated by a society that really does not celebrate life or the good, Halloween is a huge turn-off for me.

It pisses me off when damned kids drop candy in my yard.
And lets not forget the kids that are transported in from other neighborhoods.

The utter gall. They should be happy with a handful of rice and beans each morning. That'd teach them to pick better parents and a more palatable racial background next time around.

You’re freaking crazy. My one complaint is that after Halloween, it seems like more and more people are just heading straight into Christmas-mode.
Have you not been watching cable tv? There have been a couple weeks worth of QVC type stations selling Christmas stuff already. I first noticed it in mid September for crying out loud.

Good call. I’ll have a bowl of dry white beans for the kids who I don’t recognize from my neighborhood

I'm not real crazy about it. Glad my kids have mostly outgrown the trick-or-treating.

I hate going to a relative’s home for Thanksgiving and seeing a Christmas tree and other decorations.
PREACH!!!

The guy you responded to sounds like an angry “get off my lawn” type pawpaw. You sound like an insufferable individual

Halloween, Mardi Gras, and St. Patricks Day all suck. Give me Independence Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Such a fun guy.

Gives you opportunities to make kids smile that may not have much to smile about.

I like the 'Day of the Dead' bread the Mexicans do. Good stuff!
I hate seeing Halloween decorations in yards in September. And for that matter, in early-October too.
Harvest/Autumn decorations are fine after Sept. 20 and all, but seeing skeletons and coffins is lame unless we are in late-October.

I'm not a fan, but I can live with it. I love the 4th and NY, but I dislike having to stay in town for fear of some nut job setting my house on fire. The bullets I can deal with.

You only hate in because you have never experienced Halloween in the French Quarter. It is getting near Mardi Gras status there.

And miss 'Monster Mash' being played for the umpteenth time? C'mon man.

We love Halloween. Insanely decorated house. We live in an older neighborhood where Halloween is still very much celebrated. Adult neighbors hang out and drink while waiting on the next group to come by. Yep, we get some folks that come from other neighborhoods but we welcome it. No big deal to us...we hope we put a smile in their face. They damn well remember our house....fire, fog, flying ghosts, werewolves, crazy light show, dead creatures everywhere, cemetery, trees with tons of halloween lights, lightening, etc. It's like Christmas in October. The kids always make sure their parents take them by our house. We make it fun for the kids and adults.
We get one f-ing round on this earth and we plan on enjoying it.
Our crib...going bigger this year.
