I had heard of it but never knew what it was until a few years ago. Until I googled it, I thought it was some made up holiday like kwanza. Juneteenth sounds stupid it should be called emancipation day which is what it is.

this would be like someone posting:

You can't be serious.

I've never been serious about 1 thing I've ever posted on this board. I would kill myself if I ever took anything here without a hefty dose of comedy tbh

Once I moved away from the south I would never hear about Juneteenth. You think the average person living in Colorado pays attention to Juneteenth?

quote:It was invented many years ago because some one I know was born early morning on June 20th many years ago and his grandma told him every year until she passed away how she was afraid he'd be born on Juneteenth
Can we quit inventing words?

they might not pay attention to it, but they at least know it exists lol. I don't pay attention to flag day or arbor day but I don't start drooling any time I see them on the calendar.

This wasn't covered in any history class I ever took, and it wasn't one of the dates that you were expected to memorize for testing. There are too many "national" holidays to keep track of. I know the fourth of July and Christmas. Anything else is too much bother.
Posted on 6/19/20 at 11:21 am to OleWarSkuleAlum
No you are not. Never heard of it and DGAF about it.

I’m not expecting people outside of Texas to know Juneteenth, but this is absurd.

Good for you? I used the proverbial "you," not a specific one.

Nope. Never heard of it. But I'm old and don't get out much....

Those bastards! My employer blindsided me with another paid day off. The horror. Not sure I'll get over this travesty.

I’m sure the drop in productivity will be great for the GDP!

Learned about the emancipation proclamation in high school, and it only applied to slaves in the confederacy. Union slaves were not freed. Also, Lincoln gave the confederacy the opportunity to “keep your slaves” If they stopped fighting.
CSA said frick You.
Imagine what today would look like had the confederacy said, you know what, since this war is all about slavery, I’ll stop fighting today, and keep my slaves.
IMO this is one proof the civil war wasn’t about keeping plantation workers.
Say what now?
