I hate it. Will 100% take kids on a trip when they are off of school

Amen brother. I lived in NOLA for bout two years (I had no choice) my job was there.
I could not believe people would debase themselves in that way. Even more apalled parents took their children anywhere close to that cesspool called NOLA Mardi Gras.
I had a friend who routinely went to NOLA Mardi Gras with his camera. Took lots of pictures of the festivities if you can call it that. OMG. On top of all that you got ya Gay Parades and Balls. Can only imagine what goes on during those festivities.
I was so happy when I got out of that cesspool. Apparently it's only gotten worse. I understand two fatalities from drunk people run over by floats.
No thanks!

Man I always loved it. Even though I grew up in Chalmette 10 minutes away my family always got a room on st Charles. Never had to deal with traffic because of this.
Yeah, MG is great when you have a place on the route. I'll go anytime we do that.
Like tailgating, I won't go without a reliable bathroom situation. As a woman, you can't just go pee next to your truck.

Where did you see this?
Our parade spot on St Charles is basically a tailgate. Nothing raunchy or weird going on. Tons of families.

I don't hate it as a spectator but I'm 100% done participating.

Well we’re different I moved away in 1990 so only had a few young years and I miss it every year.

Starts a thread during the middle of the biggest afternoon of parades on a beautiful Sunday so OP can get affirmation of his decision from those who choose not to go enjoy the day on St. Charles.

I went to a Mardi Gras ball last night. Had a good time. Might make a parade.. I love King Cake. When I was younger I used to get into a lot more.. Go to Thibodeaux then head to New Orleans.. As much as we used to have.. As you get older it is tougher to handle, but can you just stay away from it without making a big deal out of how you despise it?

your entire post is a fabricated lie

Am I the only one who hates football games?
Grew up and spent 30 years of my life in South LA. Sure football was ok when I was a college kid, but I’ve grown to despise it.

I hate Mardi Gras more than anyone I know! My gf and her family love it. I tried to do Toth today. I made it through half of the parade then retired to a nearby bar...

You could have found another job.. So technically you did have a choice.

For all intensive porpoises, I agree.

Why did someone downvote this? This is the absolute truth. A friend of mine has family who lives off of a parade route. He invited me one year. They all cooked (his mom's parents came to the US off the boat from Italy so a lot of proud Italians who took pride in their cooking.. Probably the best Italian food I ever ate).
But like LL said, it is like a tailgate party. For a lot of people, it is a reason to get together, drink and eat.. And be with friends and family.
But hey.. Your friend took pictures so it sounds like you are really speaking from first hand experience.

I like it because I get off of work to get the frick out of here.

People who aren't educated in the history, the clubs, the krewes, etc...will never understand Mardi Gras. Do they know about the traditions in Treme, the charitable organizations, the social clubs that don't even have a parade ? Those who don't understand Mardi Gras are unconnected heathens. They probably eat hamburgers on Fridays during Lent. They probably don't like Dr John. They have no respect for history and tradition. They're downright UNAMERICAN !
