Grew up and spent 30 years of my life in South LA. Sure Mardi Gras was ok when I was a college kid, but I’ve grown to despise it.

The traffic, the rift raft, the drunken obscenities. Not something I ever intend on taking my family to.

Man I always loved it. Even though I grew up in Chalmette 10 minutes away my family always got a room on st Charles. Never had to deal with traffic because of this.

So do you not even live in New Orleans?

To me it’s nice to hang out with friends and family and drink/eat/tailgate, but I give very few fricks about the parade itself

Pack up and go to Vail. You won't be lonely, I know lots of New Orleanians who do it every year.

To answer your question, no, I'm sure you are not the only one who hates Mardi Gras.

<-- Not from Louisiana. I've been to quite a few NOLA parades throughout college and subsequent years. They are all kind of the same and simply blend in together to me. Maybe there is a lot more to it than just the parade, but they are kind of boring after a while. I do envy the time off and the ability to travel though.

This is objectively the worst part.

I liked it when I lived in New Orleans. I was never more than a couple blocks from St Charles so it was cool to have people come in town and walk to parades. We'd get a couple kegs and people would bring stuff and we always had cool parties to walk to.

But I couldn't do it as a tourist. Awful.

during this time of year what else you got going on? filing taxes? XFL?

like others have said...there are plenty of places with good family parades if that is more your scene. NOLA Mardi Gras isnt the be all, end all

if it bothers you soo much I knew plenty of families as a kid that would vacation during this break and go elsewhere especially since rates are usually pretty low in February

I know a lot of people in Florida that hate the trash Spring Break and the Summer bring to their property as well. Everyone with an attractive season, event whatever has to deal with something along these lines

Same. Exact same. Maybe not hate but not attracted to it at all. People don’t understand it but is what it is
