City limit boundaries are political and arbitrary. Use metro for true size.

Houston’s metropolitan area has more people in it than the entire state of Minnesota

Minneapolis is 57.5 square miles.

Just as a comparison Nashville is 525.9 square miles.

As mentioned metro size is the better comparison. Minneapolis ranks 16th. Bigger than San Diego and smaller than Seattle.

Google is your friend. I'm sure you'll get better answers than a forum dedicated to SEC football. If you do further research, you'll see that Minneapolis has over 400k people (about 100k bigger than NOLA), St. Paul has over 300k (about 50k more than BR). The metro area has a little less than 3.75 million so it's not Chicago or Houston big, but closer to Milwaukee or Nashville big.

Miami and EBR parish are aboot equal in population. The greater Miami area has a few more million people than the whole state of LA. :mindblown:

From the air, the metro combined with St.Paul looks very large. Too large for me to consider living in, even if it was 500 miles to the south.

Moved here at the end of last year from Houston. Im in New Brighton which is kind of in the middle of the twin cities but more St. Paul. It feels much much smaller to me. There is hardly any traffic by comparison and I seem to be able to get to any part of the cities in a short amount of time. It is -7 right now and that blows hard, but otherwise, I am digging it.

eta: it feels smaller to me than I expected, I mean. I am not sure what I expected, but Im not comparing it to Houston or Chicago.

It was mentioned by a couple of baws here, but what is surprising also is the corporate presence here. There are a bunch of big names based here: Target, Medtronic, 3M, General Mills, Land O Lakes, Gander MTn, Best Buy, Polaris, etc. I was surprised by this but as someone said, it must be the favorable laws. The health care here is unreal compared to Texas. Other than its cold AF, I am really liking it here.

I am trying to find some LSU alums here and no luck so far. The formal group seems to have died several years ago.

another interesting thing about MSP is the number of 4 year universities located here. U of M is here and there are a ton of smaller Div 2 and 3 size schools. Also, St Paul is the state capital, so that is in their downtown. I have not been down there yet.

I'll be in the area next week. Our parent company is in a little town on Lake Minnetonka near Minneapolis called Wayzata.

There's more money just in that town than Louisiana probably has in the whole state.

According to a co-worker who is from far north Minnesota but went to undergrad at UM-Twin Cities, MSP is very liberal while the rest of MN is very conservative. While he said MSP is a great place to visit, it is not a place to live.

I think that is a fair assessment. it's like Louisville and the rest of Kentucky I don't feel like I'm in wokeville though.

Have you ventured out of the metro area to try ice fishing? I had vendors from that area who did that each winter. Plenty of stories about how fancy their fishing cabins were.

I’ve been east to Stillwater - nice little place. And to the western suburbs to watch the Ryder Cup. Nice areas as well. Never stayed in downtown Minneapolis.

No, but I plan on it. My SO is from Hayward Wisconsin and a U of M grad so she has all the connections to that type of stuff through her brothers and father. I'll definitely report back to the OT about any experiences like that.

I have an aunt (LSU alum) and uncle (I think an LSU alum, honestly not 100% sure, but he's from South LA) who live in Oakdale on the east side of St. Paul currently. Neither give a crap about college sports, though. I've been up there twice in the last few years, seems like a really nice area to raise a family, they are there to be close to their grandkids.

My wife has a lot of family in rural west MN (basically in South Dakota) and yeah once you get out of the twin cities it gets very red very fast.

Nice, thanks for posting. keep my email and look me up if you get up this way. My SO has two older brothers and they and her father are big hunters and fishermen, so I can get access to that stuff.
