Didn't read...but I'm voting a-hole anyway

Three days notice?
You should have given her two checks the afternoon she quit.

Has anyone figured out who Alex is & how the frick this person fits into the story of said boss being an a-hole?

Why no ID badge scan?

she only gave me a three day notice
Then you should have retired her that day and rounded her shite up. Then you wouldn't have had to go in on your day off and start this thread.

Not sure what kind of boss you are, but you apparently do not schedule your own time very well.
If she was a good employee, then. You should made her a list of what to turn in, and whom to turn it in to. Give that person a gift card for her to leave early, and go have lunch/drinks. Good employees deserve surprises every once in a while.
If she was not a very good employee, then she should have been asked to leave the minute she said that she was “retiring”. You either work for me, or you don’t. Period.

This puts you in the category above a-hole, referred to as the "you're a dick category".

Many people are trying to turn TD into reddit with all of the AITA and "Change my mind" stuff.

She has been here for 18 years. Office setting. She’s been bitter for years and I will not miss her at all.

Yes if she is a long term employee who is retiring.

A three day notice means you are an a-hole already

She thinks that because I gave a promotion to someone else last year. Been extra bitter ever since

who gives 3 days notice about retiring? at some point you have pissed this woman off. Could've been years of torment or something recent. Not that you did something wrong, but definitely something she didn't like.

3 days notice may reflect her present management.
Just a thought. If you have to ask, yeah.

You a gubment worker aren't you? And yes very much so....if she has been a good worker for you...up to the end...got one in my office that is planning on retiring in about a year and a half. As soon as he made that date official, the mother fricker doesn't want to work. Bitches about having to do this and that, when this and that is and has been his job for 30 years.
