we know.. that's not the point of any of the arguments here.

obama does NOT need to meet with the sterling kid anymore than he needs to meet with any other criminal's kid.

this is feeding a political fire and will cause even more racial divide. it's wrong on so many levels.

Yeah, I'm sure that was the reason. I bet it had nothing to do with the extensive amount of negative comments towards his family and kids.

Like what? He called his father a good man. Oh the horror.

The vast majority of that speech was precisely what many of us have been saying on here, at least the reasonable people, but because it came form his son people refuse to even entertain the idea that it was a positive message.

Do you get tired of repeating yourself? I feel like I should remind you of the next sentence again, but we literally just did this.

False, who wanted to hear anything they had to say? At least what rational person wanted to hear anything they had to say. This whole thing shouldn't even have been a news story.

quote:

the masses here are up in arms about that.

Up in arms because this was even a news story to begin with.

peace and unity is a positive message, sure, no argument here

but I'm also not blind to the fact of why the kid gave the speech

On that point I have been impressed with the younger Sterling.

His son seems like he might turn out to be a good kid, but we can only judge from what we have seen in the media. Since his dad was apparently a saint to the media...I won't make any opinion on the kid other than give him the benefit of doubt. The fact that the kid is in the media...he's being used as a pawn and that is a sad thing. Media is screwing this country over and we sit here and take it like the "battered husband".

Of course you don't recall many here complaining that the family had not spoke out for peaceful protests.

There really has not been much talk it all here about the media .

And folks still can't get over the fact he called his father a good man while calling to end violence and drugs.

What was his message?

quote:

I feel that people in general, no matter what the race, is that we should come together as one united family. There should be no more arguments, disagreements, violence, crimes. Everyone should come together as one united family. My father was a good man. That was a sacrifice to show everyone what has been going on in life. And it should give everyone a push that everyone should be together, not against each other. Everyone should be on one accord, not a different note. Everybody needs to be together, not apart. And, I truly feel that my father was a good man and he will always be a good man. But, at the same time, he has a lot of loved ones out here that are really here to support me, my mother, the rest of my brothers and sisters and my father. They are here to support everyone. And I want to thank everyone that are supporting us. I want to thank y’all very much for supporting us. And another thing, protesting. I feel that everyone, yes, you can protest. But I want everyone to protest the right way. Protest in peace. Not guns, not drugs, not alcohol, not violence. Everyone needs to protest in the right way with peace, not violence. None what so ever. Thank y’all

Twice he called his father a good man and called his death a sacrifice. That is is. No other comments about him. No comments about being shot because he was black. No comments inciting violence or whipping people into a frenzy.

For a 15-year old to come out less than 10 days after his father's death and deliver that message, I'm pretty impressed.

And twice it makes no fricking sense.

Then you're a fool. He didn't write that, and he's being used. And you're just eating it up. Congrats I guess.

it isn't more about what he did say, but more what he didn't say

and I get it, he is a 15 year old talking about his dad, so I really don't expect him to say what really happened, but I can also see when a kid being used

My opinion but why have the kid make the speech?

Do you really think these idiots are going to march peacefully because a 15 year old told them to?

While the message called for peaceful protests it is still calling for protests.

I recall in the beginning that Alton's family asked for peaceful protests, but I don't recall seeing on here or in other media form that people were continually asking them to reiterate their statement.

See, he cannot win with some of you. Delivers a message full of comments about unity, togetherness, and support, condemns protest with alcohol, drugs, and violence, and all you can say is that he didn't 'right' it?

Have you seen the video? Unless there is a teleprompter set up at the Triple S, the kid isn't reading some prepared message. Seriously, for those of you who haven't seen it, you need to watch it. LINK
