I had a couple of drinks and had a good buzz and noticed a text message from Amazon that said my account had been temporarily suspended.

So I click on the link and it’s got the Amazon logo and text just like Amazon and is asking me to enter my info. So I start entering my info, like name and address and then it asks for my social security number. Thankfully my drunk brain said, “Whoa! What the frick? Amazon doesn’t need my SSN!” I quickly deleted all info and deleted the text message.

These frickers are slick. Moral of the story, don’t answer texts while drinking.

Too late. If you typed it, they got it.

I got one that said USPS needed me to reenter my address because the “package delivery verification failed.”

Old folks are sadly going to be the ones to fall victim.

I got the same message. Scam 101 tells you to never click the link. Go independently to the website named in the email or text to check your accounts status. Never, never, never click the link.

All they got was my name and address then. I didn’t type any of my SSN.

I got one saying my Burger King order was on it's way. Never showed up. I'm gonna post on Nextdoor complaining. That's the correct procedure, right?

I usually get those texts about once a week. I don’t open it. Just delete.

My wife sent out a package yesterday morning to her son who is stationed in Germany. In the afternoon she received a text stating that her package was unable to be sent and to call the number provided (which claimed to be the post office). She happened to be by the post office so she stopped by to ask them what the problem was. They told her it was a scam. How the heck a scammer knew that she sent out a package earlier that day, I have no clue.

Yeah, companies only ever send out texts to notify you of things like estimate times of arrival, or a payment being posted....they'll never never never text you a link to ask you for information.

I've gotten a handful of these this week also. And some Paypal phishing. Verizon Users - please report these to (hopefully) help them shut down the scammers.

Report Spam to 7726
- Confirm the text message is still available on the device.
- Forward the suspected Spam message to 7726
- Respond to the shortcode message by providing the sender's MDN (or email address) on the suspicious message.
-If preferred, block the sender using My Verizon or through the device.
Delete the message.

This is why you never click any link in a text or email.

Just log into site directly.

Are they though? A random number requesting you to click a blind link seems pretty obvious to me.

Some azzhole has my SS# and all my info.. I have contacted the credit bureaus and they have a "lock" on my credit report. But there are still companies that allow these frickers to open an account with them and charge stuff in my name.. It's a little bit of a process to clear my name.. I just don't get how a company allows someone to open an account and have the first order delivered to a different address then the one that is connected to the SS#.
The fricker even opened a stock account in my name and put in $5bucks.. it was doing well. I am not sure what I am going to do about this other than joining lifelock.. But damn it I hate paying for something that I had nothing to do with..

I must have gotten a dozen or more calls yesterday running the “your Amazon account has a large pending order for an iPhone” scam.
