It's a free market. Address it by not going to college. Simple.

It's amazing how everyone thinks they are college material these days.
You think people just decided one day, out of thin air, that they must go to college to be successful out of some sense of entitlement?
I've already said three times in this thread the loans are too easy to get, and that's the issue. The housing bubble made a lot of people jump to buy a house they couldn't possibly afford because it was really easy and they thought it was what they should do.

I'm indifferent on the student loan debate.
1.) The cost of college tuition has skyrocketed within the past 15-20 years. It has essentially doubled in recent years.
2.) We have shown that we will bail out the banks. But we won't bail out our citizens?
3.) I know their paychecks will be/have been deducted for Social Security. Something the vast, vast majority of student loan borrowers will never receive.
4.) I agree with Trump's philosophy in that student loans (mainly regarding the interest rate) isn't something the country should be looking to make money off of. It's in our countries best interest to have educated citizens (spare me from the theatre or anthropology argument).

Kind of like the a-hole baby boomers that have driven the price of college through the roof and made these predatory loans available to kids?
Don't play the bullshite millennial card here. This issue is squarely on your generation.
I'm not a baby boomer dipshit.

Well then you're just an ignorant dumbass blaming the wrong people.

We get it. You're the wise, rich Catepillar employee who didn't go to college, rides a bike & has life figured out. That covers your entire TD existence. Find another thread to ruin.

I swear, what passes for logic to Millennial never ceases to amaze me. On the one hand they want free college and their student loan debt forgiven. They seem to have at lest some tenuous grasp on the notion that massive debt is crippling and will lead to ruin down the road. Yet they can't make the same connection when it comes to the fact this country is right at $20,000,000,000,000.00 in debt and counting. But for some odd reason they support a candidate and polices that instead of addressing this issue will only make it worse.
Both candidates will only make it worse, so there isn't any use in making that argument.

Yes. There are many successful careers that don't require college.

I agree along with too many people thinking they are college material

I'm blaming those stupid enough to take out these massive student loans and now want to bitch and blame everyone else when they finally realize they will actually have to pay them back.
I know the real world is a scary place to all you sheltered special little snowflakes. But it's past time you learn the hard lesson that eventually everyone has to pay the pied piper if they want to dance. If you assume debt, you will be expected to pay it back. This is not a new concept yet it seems to be blowing your generation's minds.
Maybe, just maybe, had some of y'all not been such pig headed smartasses in thinking you're smarter than everyone who's come before you and instead actually took the time to listen and learn to people who have experience in life there would not be so damn many young idiots who are waking up to find out they're starting out their life under a mountain of debt they have no hope of ever paying off. These idiots made their bed and now they're going to have to lay in it. Life is hard, nobody owes you anything nor will they give you anything, and there's no such thing as a free lunch. Deal with it like the rest of us have for years.

Right. And TOPS is eventually going to be eliminated. Maybe not next year but within 5-10.
It has already been stated that most likely it will be between 2020 and 2025. So you have a point.

I have about a $100k of law school debt. I'm obviously paying it back. One thing that does tick me off is the exorbitant interest rate. I think it's ridiculous that I am paying more money to borrow money for education that someone is to buy a used car. I mean, one would think that the policy of the US would be to encourage people to go to school to better themselves and the country by providing cheap interests rates. But no, I'm pay like 9% while Jerry is paying freaking 3% on his used Toyota Carolla. WTF

All while completely ignoring how out of control college costs have gotten in the last 15 years and how easy it is to take out massive debt. Who made it that way? Helpful hint, it's not the 18 year old going to college.

Did they hide from you what the interest rate would be on your loan when you signed the papers?

This. It's F'd up that the government is making so much money off of student loans while they gave billions of dollars to banks at 0% interest rate. I'm the biggest republican you'll ever find and still think it's messed up.

Perhaps we should start shutting down programs that do not produce the income to justify their existence...

How is your dumbass not getting this? People in their 40's and 50's just wrote the damn book on defaulting for loans. That's exactly what just caused the recession. The government just bailed out the banks to the total of 29 TRILLION dollars, for you guessed it, people not paying back loans they took out. I swear, you might be the most ignorant mother fricker on here.

College is not trade school. If you had said close down under-performing schools, you may be on to something.
