I busted my arse the past few years to pay all of mine off. I will be pissed if I have to continue working and giving tax dollars to pay for those that picked a jobless degree.

There is no such income limit on student loan forgiveness under the various federal programs.

Only thing I can think of with "deceiving" is maybe those "colleges" you hear about on the radio talking about how you can start your new career today. Maybe the University of Phoenix type of commercials showing the guy with a job. I've never seen anything from a real institution about getting a job or how much money you'll make after college. There may be some statistics out there, but nothing used in say the commercials during a football game or something.

Right. And TOPS is eventually going to be eliminated. Maybe not next year but within 5-10. I can only imagine how high tuition will be at that point.

Liberal Arts majors! (jk, but maybe not)
I have about 50k left to pay off, but I was smart enough to get a degree in Engineering hahaha.

college isn't for everyone
no shite. But it could and should be more accessible for those without means; this is America after all.
This "college isn't for everyone" is apparently the new company line to justify the asinine increase in college tuition the last 4 decades and the price gouging of books. It's a lazy response to a complex issue.

They could've been working 1-2 jobs during school instead of partying.
I worked through all of college and didn't get to enjoy much of a typical college social life for 4 years. I wanted to start paying off the debt as soon as possible.
In the end, I realized the money I made barely covered my books and rent. I regret working so much and missing out on what should've been the most fun years of my life.

Sat next to a kid in New Orleans who was pontificating on how he wasn't concerned about his student debt because the entire system would eventually collapse and these companies would be forced to write it all off as a tremendous loss.
Good plan.
Good plan.

While I disagree with paying off student debt, considering that I have over $200k myself, that is no longer possible at current tuition prices. You cannot work enough and go to school to pay off the increasing costs of college tuition.
'tis very true.
Say you work full time earning $10.00/hour, which would be generous for a student. After taxes you're lucky to break through with $1200-1300/month. That's about $15,000/year.
If you're a workhorse and attending school full-time, that's at least $10,000, 2/3 of your annual income, wiped out right off the bat. You're left with $5000 for rent, food, and transportation for a year- just basic sustenance costs.
You'll be very hard pressed to find an apartment going for less than $450/month, rent and utilities, in BR- that's $5,400 right there.
Not even accounting for food and transportation, you're already overbudget.

That's funny because I get a real person calling me twice a day telling me that I should pay mine. I think I'll sit back and see how this whole forgiveness thing plays out.

They have plenty of options. How many go to college (that shouldn't) and just drop out after a year or 2 and waste taxpayer dollars?

just make everyone who received TOPS and didn't graduate pay it back.

Bernie will fix everything when he gets in office. You shouldn't have to get a loan to go to college.
Posted on 6/2/16 at 9:36 am to wryder1
When were you in college, out of curiosity?

1 It is in our nations best interest to have a well educated population.
2 Define "exorbitant professor salaries." Do you not want good professors?

College tuition has far outpaced inflation. It's not like we're talking about the price of milk. A full year's cost of attendance is probably at $25,000 these days.
