All three agencies have Task Force Officers in BR for one thing that has them working with BRPD and EBRSO regularly. While the particular crime may not be a federal violation (the murder) the federal agents can hit the streets and talk to people in the neighborhoods and pass along any tips or witness statements. They can do this by claiming jurisdiction over any number of things (the firearms crime of violence is a federal violation for one).

Yes, I know. But ARE they hitting the streets, talking to people in neighborhoods and passing along witness statements? Is BRPD allowing and encouraging this? Are they following up on info given to them by these agencies?

Forgive my lack of faith in BRPD and their leadership.

I’m not questioning their leadership, I’m denying its existence.

Same here and I’m sure it’s in my post history. Anyone who didn’t see the writing on the wall (both for LSU and BR) before this hasn’t been paying attention.

No I’m saying anyone who was sending their kids to LSU before last thurs night and has since decided not to is being over dramatic. It’s not that hard to understand…if you aren’t dense.

Speaking of dense, that's not what I said at all. I said this has been going on for years. It has nothing to do with this specific incident.

But there is such a thing as the final straw. At some point the avalanche becomes to great to ignore.

The multiple attempted abductions on campus already had people on edge simply because it has been a lot of shite in a short period of time.

I understand that I have lived in BR my whole life. The crime was limited to certain areas but in the last 5-10 yrs can happen anywhere. I remember many worse incidents when I was a kid than what has happened recently though. Wendy’s manager killed on Essen…Essen was a very quiet area when that happened. The cook who killed 3-4 people at Applebees on Perkins and Essen.

This was tragic and senseless bc I believe it was a crime of opportunity and didn’t happen bc she was an LSU student. I just wonder if she was a BRCC student, beauty school student etc if this would be the reaction some are having about LSU…I don’t think it would be and I’m saying the focus shouldn’t be that she was an LSU student it should be that she was a 21 yr old white woman that wasn’t involved in anything shady.

Every parent that has been to a prospective student visit/tour at LSU understands. If you listen to the way that LSU sells itself, you'll realize that the goal is to be diverse above all else. It resembles all of the leftist policies that have destroyed other places.

Of all the college tours we went on, LSU was the worst. It was like a used car salesman trying to hide an aging campus. Tour included nothing the kids want to see, like Tiger Stadium, PMAC, or UREC. They did not even bring you back to where the tour started. Abandon you at the clock tower. Fortunately, I know campus. But, if it was my first time, I would have been lost and pissed.

Kipp lived down the hall. Led to many deep discussion for my parents, much like what we are seeing today. Parents want to see their kids achieve their dreams, not bury them while chasing that dream.

When a community pulls together and demands answers, there will be interest.

There have been a lot of murders that would get the same treatment but the “snitches get stitches” mentality means that people in that community won’t talk to the cops.

My husband is from Baton Rouge and I’m from Nola. Both of us went to LSU. My father was a captain for the LSU football team. I literally teethed on a game ball. My grandfather played for Tulane. My husband and I met and dated in Baton Rouge. I lived - alone - a couple blocks off government. We are both huge supporters of and contributors to LSU along with surrounding businesses. My in-laws are decently well-known business owners in BR.

About 12 years ago, all of my cousin group (20 of us) bought a house near campus as we would have a rolling number of our kids going through LSU over the next 15-20 years. That house is waiting for my son and his group of cousins to walk through the door in 2 years. It won’t happen. One of the cousins in this LSU round was too close to this incident. The house will likely be sold after this semester.

I agree with you. But the truth is the “community” who could make a difference has left for neighboring parishes. The voter base that determines who is in charge will not care about this murder. I have lost hope for BR to be honest. The only way this gets solved is if the reward gets so high one of these thugs friends can’t resist calling crime stoppers.

I get it. My nephew just went off to college in Fla. He grew up near this shooting and the one that happened near valley park. He went to BRHS but crime wasn’t the factor it was a much better college.

We live in AP and I have 1 applying for colleges now. LSU isn’t even in the discussion because if I was going to send my kid somewhere close, it would be Southeastern. You can dismiss parental safety concerns all you want but I’ll be dammed if I put my kids in a situation where they potentially become another statistic in some shithole democrat run city. My kid can get just as good (if not better) of an education at State, A&M, Auburn, or any other SEC school without being a statistic.

And before you say I’m being dramatic, I grew up in NOLA in the 90’s when it was the murder capital much like BR and NOLA are today. The difference??? Thugs killed thugs back in the day because targeting the innocent was bad for business. Today’s thugs don’t give a shite

Edited because I was in a hurry and I think I replied to the wrong post so this isn’t directed at you specifically but the rest of my post still stands for anyone wondering why people don’t want to send their kids to LSU. To answer the last part of your post I wouldn’t care where she went to school (or didn’t). I also don’t care if she was pretty, ugly, fat, lesbian, whatever. The truth is many of us have kids going to the same places as her, driving the same streets, and she could have been anyone’s child.

Post before editing:
Violence is increasing all over the country and we live in a city whose leaders turn a blind eye to it, at best, and glorify it, at worst. It’s only going to get worse.
Judges put violent criminals back on the streets as quickly as they can. The moron police chief and mayor are destroying the police department.
My kids aren’t safe roaming this city or on campus, particularly since criminals have such easy and unrestricted access to it. LSU’s academics aren’t strong enough to overcome this so let’s stop saying why not LSU and say why LSU?

I was a lifelong LSU fan and was accepted into LSU but decided to go to Southern Miss.

There were several factors and the crime/trashiness of Baton Rouge was certainly one of them.

I graduated from LSU. I brought my oldest child to look around campus. I didn’t bring any of my other kids. Crime was really getting bad back then. Sad state of affairs for LSU and BR.

Kip Gullet murder was in 1992. Not too long after I graduated. Literally could have been me.

My heart goes out for the families that have to undergo this kind of heartache and tribulations. May God bless you and get you through this.
