This includes KADN Fox 15 in Lafayette. The plan is to do pre-recorded remote weather segments from a hub in Atlanta.

That’s Byron Allen’s company. He started as a stand up comedian and has amassed a fortune. Very bright guy.

Includes stations in Huntsville and Montgomery. WSFA was my local news and weather source back when I worked in Montgomery.

And fringe leftist extremist.

How will that work when there’s a tornado warning or a hurricane hitting? Local meteorologist is the most important person on a newscast. This makes no sense at all.

With a nod to ADC and Ford Fairlane - Pat Shingleton is rolling over in his grave, and he’s not even dead yet.

It doesn’t. Central casting and adding more and more non-local local programming destroys a brand and steals the local from local news. For years, I think there was a service for Jackson, Mississippi that provided local stations with weather content prerecorded via satellite or now internet delivery.
Have a good laugh when the weather channel chick with small knockers or the guy from Georgia in a cheap suit tries to say a uniquely Lafayette name on the “local” Lafayette TV channel for breaking weather.
If they “Allen Media” are firing Meteorologists then their financials must be really bad. At least when KATC/Scripps decided to get rid of some talent and change formats, they kept the local weather in tact for now.
As to the financial picture of Allen media, weren’t they mentioned as a possible bidder for CBS, but I guess I see why that failed as they start cutting staff.
On the flip side you have some bigger stations in medium sized markets with 5 or 6 meteorologists like WAFB and WVUE. I personally think that may be too much. But now some of those stations are on the air with nearly 10-12 hours a day of local programming and other Facebook and social media content, it could be justified, but that where the bastardization of weather comes to be where you try to hype it just to get clicks and satisfy sponsors and achieve ratings goals.

The idea that these people give a shite about locals is funny.

Nope. He got his money by blackmailing the cable/satellite companies. If they wouldn't carry his obscure channels, he'd claim they were racist and would file lawsuits claiming they were discriminating against him. He then moved on to suing companies like McDonald’s claiming they were racist for not buying commercial time on his channels.

Yea. He’s apparently killing it right now. The company appears to be running like a well oiled machine

Just a natural process with the coming of AI.
In 10 years, 90% of meteorologists will be without work. And the reason its only 90 and not 95% is that the NWS will still keep many employed because they are a bloated big gov entity that's slow to adjust.
Like spokesmiths, they are a way of the past. The jobs will be in physically maintaining and employing the various weather devices and satellites.

To a large degree this perspective of reducing local staff "is one of the factors" which led to the destruction of the LOCAL newspaper. The owners are not concerned about local. It is purely about SLASHING costs regardless of its effect on the QUALITY of the product. It is very much the 'core' perspective that most private equity firms employ when they buy a business.

And Tupelo. WTVA is on that list. That's Matt Laubhan's weather room. He's one of the best in the business for severe coverage. His first day on the job as chief meteorologist was 4/27/11.
