quote:Agreed. It's not even really a debate. If someone has a case of psychosis and murders someone else, let's not act like it couldn't happen again.
Yeah, I don't understand what these banshees are even protesting. Do they think she's just going to be able to go home like nothing happened if they somehow successfully argue psychosis?
Even in lesser degree cases, we can't give people a slap on the wrist and a sympathy card because they had a mental disorder, going through a tough time, etc. If you do the crime, you do the time regardless of circumstances. Not fair to anyone else that has to share the earth with them.

That got the old waterworks leaking. I’m not sure I wouldn’t go actual insane and save everyone the trouble of the trial

The movie Shooter has a great quote on this.
"It's not the Wild West where you can clean up the streets with a gun, even though sometimes that's exactly what's needed"

I’ve been following this case for some time.
I truly believe this woman was in a state of severe psychosis from lack of sleep, wrong meds, and postpartum depression. I believe the medical system failed her at virtually every turn. She communicated repeatedly that she was hearing voices that were telling her to harm her children.
That said, of course she will never roam the streets free again. Even if there is a defense verdict, she will spend the rest of her life in a facility.

Another post that begins with an excuse for a person who murdered three children

You could argue anyone who kills someone is psychotic at some level.
Everyone these days is ADHD, depressed, suicidal, OCD, Autistic, on and on and on we go.
Where does it end?
If you harm kids you should go out in a horrible manner and it should happen publicly. Period. Cruel AND unusual punishment.

This point doesn't get made enough. Pleading insanity to anything has never made sense to me. You killed a child, of course you're "insane" but what fricking difference does it make?

Yep. No matter what happens to her, it won't be real justice.

More sleazy lawyers would have grabbed on to the public narratives and ran with them.
I get the whole "how could you defend someone who did _____" angle about lawyers and I largely agree with it, but for a lawyer I think hers are kind of just doing their jobs and not trying to drag the case into the mud, which they very much could given the public opinion on it.
Granted a lot of the cake was baked already for them when dumb women started grabbing onto their weird, false narratives. But they still could muddy the waters and at least try to get a hung jury or something.

Definitely the actions of a hero. I can see why women love her so.

When reporters asked her lawyer “Are the children being forgotten in this discussion?”, he walked away from them. That speaks volumes.

3. Life in a mental institution
That's the problem with being ruled insane. While you do go to an institution, it's not indefinitely. If they believe you have been stabilized and are no longer a threat to anyone, you could hypothetically get out after only a few years.

Agree completely. Serial killers are largely battling mental health issues and we don’t afford them leniency. And we shouldn’t.
