Your point? Being active is just as important, if not moreso, than eating healthy. It goes hand in hand.

If a salad is:

3-4 little strips of colorless iceberg lettuce

1/2 cup fake processed bacon bits

1/2 cup shredded fake cheddar "cheese product"

Pint of liquid laboratory concoction called 1000 island or Ranch poured on top

Better to not eat salad.

It's really about finding substitutions for the things you already like more than anything else. Nothing hits the spot for me like chicken wings (Jaidyn's is the best in the city for you New Orleans folks), but I've learned that I like a lot of "healthy" foods more than traditional junk foods. Swapping cow's milk for flax. Beyond Meat over ground meat. The only other thing I drink besides water and alternative milks is alcohol and that's rare, too. Salads are ALWAYS raw spinach and/or kale. Salad dressings are almost always a mix of olive oil, pepper oil, lemon, honey, and freshly cracked pepper.

I eat actual meat (usually chicken or turkey) maybe twice a week most weeks, and a lot of the meals we cook are of the vegetarian/vegan variety. Loaded sweet potatoes, vegetarian chili, white bean and cheese quesadillas, etc. Budgetbytes.com has a lot of good, cheap vegetarian/vegan recipes. Above all, it's having the thought of "what I put in my body is going to determine how I look and feel."

Cook at home and prepare food with health in mind. Portion control. 70% veg and 30% meat instead of the other way around or no veg at all. Less one pot cooking, and more grilling with leaner meats. More salads and easy on the fatty dressings. Fewer carbs.

Basically BALANCE.

Eliminate highly processed crap and sugary drinks. Limit oils and avoid added sugars. No fast food (also falls under 'highly processed crap'). Eat a variety of whole foods.

If you are trying to get maximum health for maximum lifespan?

Plant based everything all the time.

Look up the blue zone diet so you can almost avoid cancer, never have high blood pressure, and live into your 90’s without going to the doctor everyday and taking 12 pills.

To get in the days carbs.

Not eating X before bed is a myth. Its about what you take in per day. Doesn’t matter when you get it in

That is only a true statement if you are over 50 and can still do that without gaining weight. Other than that, it's just part of having a young man's metabolism.

I coulsd eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce until I hit around 45, now if I just think about a dounut i gain weight.

Diets. Yeah, I think all of the blue zones eat at least 95% plant based.

Rice and potatoes are excellent, maybe not for the average person (fat and following fad diets) but for athletes, it’s essential.

And while I agree with you, OP didn't say anything about waking up every morning and exercising. If you ate rice and potatoes every night and didn't workout = not healthy.

Stick with mostly baked chicken breast, fish, and lean pork when it comes to meat. Limit red meat to no more than once a week. I can’t eat salad and a lot of vegetables are also not an option. Instead I eat a lot of squash, blackeye peas, Lima beans, and green beans instead. If I do have fried foods it’s done in an air fryer.

But most importantly I eat reasonable portions. I think this more important than anything. When I’m hunger, I eat. When I’m full, I stop.

Cook your own food from raw meat and vegetables.
Don't be a glutton.
That is all you really need to do.

So if you eat an animal that's a herbivore that counts as plant based right?

I wouldn't put myself in the "eat healthy" category, but I will say when I started growing my own food I did start eating much healthier. I still eat too many snacks, but the garden has definitely helped. I don't live on my homestead anymore, but I do still do alot with a container garden.

Second thing I did was get a rice cooker and a wok. I eat alot more stir fry and garlic/spinach dinners than I used to.

And third I have gotten to where I eat more fish and less red meat. That is mostly because I have to have meat flown out to me here, but I can catch plenty of Salmon and Lake Trout in the summer to get me through the year.
