Good chance zero people on this site are the people you're talking to.

What if you're in the camp of "Increase police funding but raise the requirements to a college degree before you can be a cop".

Do I still have to watch it?

I was reading an article this morning about my hometown having a police reform march. It’s a town of 300k people and the march had 100. There’s almost no crime and murders I believe stay in single digits. The main grievances was that one of the marchers has had police repeatedly shine flashlights in his face.

Police were present during the march handing out water bottles and snacks while making sure the roads remained unobstructed and traffic was easily diverted away as to not cause backlogs.

I’m not sure what the word is but seemed like the police and the community were already working really well together.

There are absolutely good cops who do good things for communities. But there are some real systematic issues with how police forces operate (especially when the FOP is the driving force behind policy making) and we need reform. Good cops don't change that.

Does it need to come in removing/defunding the police all together? No. Does it mean taking a long hard look on how they operate, where the money goes (and its a lot of money), and whether other services can help? Absolutely.

The only people wanting to defund the police are criminals and Democrats.

Just the thought of not having a trained and active police force is beyond ridiculous. It's amazing that this is even a conversation topic.

I get that there are bad cops, most likely 0.00001%, and they need to be removed, but the fact that we have blown everything up is so terribly sad.

This is the truth right here.

I know plenty of folks here in Louisville on both sides of the aisle that are asking real questions on how LMPD operates after the Breonna Taylor case.

And why Metro Council, a month ago, moved another $1 million to their budget from the Louisville Public Library budget.

Poo Poo the Po Po all you want, but I find it unbelievable that the two men in this video did. Even knowing that that signed up to protect the public they put themselves directly in harm way (literately) with the potential for serious and substantial injuries. That's straight up heroic and the names of these two men deserve to be known to the wider public.

So?

The police are authorized to use deadly force to stop deadly threats. A wrong way driver on a freeway is a deadly threat.

Ding ding ding.

The biggest hurdle with holding corrupt cops accountable is the union, same as any other public employee union.

One of the screams is "more training". Gee, how does a department that spends the entire budget afford "more training"?

The training money has to come from somewhere, so either more fines/fees/penalties/taxes, or, from other city budget items like libraries. (and how about those calls for fewer libraries due to internet?)

Turns the entire city into a mess: more of this but less of that. When the 2 are inter dependent. (not just cops but all city services)

Yep. Time to do away with all unions for taxpayer funded services. Also time for govt employees to move to a 401k style retirement instead of pension.

3rd offense DUI and 15 months is what he got. He almost killed a lot of people, including the police. What absurdity.

Who started the "Defund the Police"? I saw on instagram that there were several Hollywood types promoting this awhile back and I am just thinking "these mother frickers live in the best parts of LA. The police make sure those areas are safe as hell..

They have no idea that in areas with high crime there are actually people who live in those areas that are not involved in crime, who are already scared to live where they are, but don't have the means to get out.. And you want to take funds away from the police? How about lobby for giving police departments more funds so they can attract and hire more qualified people

There was a Joe Rogan episode last week with a professor of Psychology who has worked with police departments, etc. She said that the number of suicides committed by police is really high, however; police who are provided with a psychologist rarely, if at all commit suicide. Even if the cop doesn't want to talk, they are provided with resources to help them deal.

Defunding the police is the stupidest fricking thing I ever heard.. Let's defund these Hollywood fricks. How does someone like Chelsea Handler become rich and famous?
