If we get what we pay for, why aren’t we providing them with advancement opportunities, criminology education (not nebulous “training”) and a selection process that screens out head cases like the Minneapolis cop who started the recent mess? It amazes me that so much time has passed since the "defund the police" idea made the news and people still have no fricking clue what it means. I mean, it takes true effort and grit to remain so oblivious to what a policy proposal actually entails. I guess it's just easier to read TD, Facebook, and watch Fox/OAN than to actually do some research.

You can call it whatever you want.
Defund / Abolish / Shift funds away from.
Regardless. People with a lick of sense realize 2 things:
1) We have data to prove that it’s not defunding/ abolishing / shifting the funds away from police that has any positive outcome, it’s actually communities / cities working along with the police departments to decrease violent crime in areas that works.
2) We have data to prove that any version of defunding / abolishing / shifting the funds away from police or police refusing to work specific areas only causes a significant increase in violent crimes in those areas.
No made up charts or “ TD, Facebook, and watch Fox/OAN” necessary. Just common sense.

Remove responsibilities from police which they are not properly trained to handle. Mental health and drug abuse are two main issues police deal with, but why? Police are usually kind of on-edge (rightfully so) as they need to be prepared to save their own lives. They're authoritarian by design, insisting upon compliance from the person they're dealing with.
What good does screaming, hitting, tasing, or arresting a mentally ill person really do? Taking them to jail? Instead, have mental health experts on the force that can be called to assist in these situations. Same with someone high as a giraffe's arse...get someone out who is trained to deal with these sorts of folks.
It's more a reappropriation of funding. Instead of, "here's $50M a year to buy cool vehicles, personal armor, etc." they say they're only going to give them $40M and use the other $10M to fund a specialized sub-force. This removes both work and risk from the police while adjusting their budget accordingly.
As Centinel pointed out, the unions fricking hate this idea because they're all about milking every dollar they can from the system.

You probably should view the video on the Minneapolis assembly chair discussing this issue. She meant get rid of cops.
Your scenario is one option out there, but others have been proposed. You keep getting pissed at people for not getting your version, but it's still not the only version.

That doesn't sound bad. But it's absolutely not what's being discussed on most news networks and certainly not on the ground at most protests. It's not the only theory being discussed. Some places are absolutely supporting the end of police departments.
Can we campaign on drug law reform and mental health reform instead "defund the police".
It's like if I started a movement to help starving children by diverting funds from food stamp programs and just called it "Defund Food Stamps".
Why pick such an obnoxious and immediately argumentative title for your movement with zero explanation?

White people are the main drivers of the defund movement. White guilt ridden young people that have been taught to hate themselves because they are white. They’ll go back to their parents basements or pool houses when this is over while the people that live in crime ridden neighborhoods will go back to their crime with less help from the police.

Many cops already have degrees, it changes nothing.
End the WoD, end using traffic stops as revenue collection and things dramatically change.
