New Orleans is a dump. The fun of getting plastered and pissing on the streets faded as I grew up and now it’s just a dump.

Nawlins has always been a shite show and it'll always be that as long as voters rationalize the festering political environment that is New Orleans.

As bad as NOLA is, Memphis is worse.

I beg to differ. NOLA has done a whole lot to warrent the disdain it earned.

Let's start with city hall. I've dealt with the city government of both cities. I still loathe some of my NOLA experiences there. Houston worked.

Then let's deal with trying to renew a driver's license in both places. Dear God. The hours wasted standing in line at the 'faster' station in NOLA. The five minutes in a faster station in Houston.

Nope. You can't erase the nightmares I have from both, as a victim of crime in both. NOLA never gave a crap about me. People in Houston try to help and often do.

Ignoring everything else, just the issues with the sewage and board alone warrant all the hate that nola gets for everything combined.

Lack of "economic development". This sounds bad on its face but is actually a blessing in disguise. This means that there aren't millions of people from California flooding in and "luxury apartments" (read: crack dens in the making) springing up everywhere.

Excuse me, but there is no way you can spin pack of economic development as a positive.

Houston is basically NOLA but without the advantages: Houston is hot as hell. Houston is humid as hell. Houston is ghetto as hell. Houston still gets hurricanes and floods. However, Houston is also a massive metropolis that requires long trips to get anywhere.

You can also get a job other than a lawyer, doctor, or banker in houston. Tech, engineering, marketing, you name it.

New Orleans used to be a great city and it can be a great city again, but the crime (really the only thing I hear people bitch about when it comes to New Orleans) is outrageous

I'll be honest, and maybe its just perception, but as much as I have always loved New Orleans and I have never really felt unsafe, in Houston I feel safer.. If that makes sense.

Every time I have gone to Houston there has been an officer in the area. The last time, I had to ask the next officer I saw a question and he was extremely helpful.

I do know that part of the reason had to do with the area I was in, but in current times it seems like Houston is safer for tourist, although going to New Orleans, I don't really consider myself a tourist. I just know what areas to stay away from, but just based on the news, it seems like the areas that were once relatively safe are not as safe.

When it comes to Houston, I have no idea about their police department. Even if its bad it can't be worse than NO and BR, but I do know in both NO & BR the manpower has diminished a a pretty good bit over the past 4 or so years so its simply a numbers deal (and maybe quality), they simply don't have enough quality officers and there isn't a presence they once had. That improves the chances of getting away with crime.

The houses you show in that neighborhood do not cost $700k. And if they are, it must mean they are 4,000 sqft.

That’s a shotgun house in Nola, meaning it’s probably less than 1,700 sqft. Real estate in new Orleans completely baffles me

It's not like they were just handing out reputations one day and New Orleans got a shitty draw. New Orleans earned its shitty reputation through decades of crime, corruption, and neglect.

I've been to many shitholes, but Nola sadly takes the cake. There are potholes inside of potholes, you can see earth's goddamn mantle in some of those sinkholes. Never seen anything like it, not Memphis, not Houston, no where. Of all the idiot leadership, in all the idiot leadership villages, Nola stands alone.

Houston has an extremely diverse population and a food scene that beats anyone including NOLA.

No it doesn’t. Nola is the best food scene in the world. And don’t give me high end restaurants where the meal is $200/person. I’m talking hole in the wall food that’s world class food. That’s what separates New Orleans.

Saying NOLA is better than Houston is like a dwarf bragging amongst midgets.

Both cities suck. My family is all from NOLA and we hate seeing how bad it’s fallen but the best thing we ever did was get out.

It is funny when you also travel to cities like St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, Atlanta, Montgomery, LA, Philadelphia, etc.

I never lived in Nola, but have been hundreds of times as I lived in BR for 10 years and went to LSU. Moved to Houston 2 years ago.

Houston (and TX in general) is 100x better than Nola/BR. I have more of my LSU friends here than over there and for good reason. The jobs pay better and it’s more fun for young professionals. Nola is a shite hole. Rice Military/Heights is very nice, affordable, and SAFE compared to anything in New Orleans.

Wholeheartedly agree with you in the pre social media era but that gap is closing fast especially with the rise of great restaurants in Miami, Charleston, Austin, New York etc

Platforms like Instagram have made it so much easier for chefs across the country to get great ingredients and spark their creativity skills.

You can make fun of LaToya all you want, and she is terrible, but Houston is about to get Sheila Jackson Lee
