I've never in my life seen it written like this.
Seriously, my mind is doing pretzels right now.
I've never seen it written Ctrl+Alt+Del until maybe late 2000s.

I remember kids using the term at summer camp as slang for “forget that” That was late 1990’s.

I've never seen it written any other way until this thread and I go way back to the IBM PC XT days.

I think we’ve discovered another Mandela effect
That’s the only way I’ve ever seen it written

I had old IBM manuals from the 80s and 90s that show Ctrl+Alt+Del. I'm not sure what systems you were working on but it's been the standard since it was created.

US is essentially a third world country at this point.
You must not have ever been to a third world country.

People who say things like this don't travel often outside the country. Mexico is a 1st world nation. It's a far drop to a second world nation. Like Honduras or Guatemala. But yet another cliff for a country like Haiti or Nicaragua.

And our nuclear arsenal uses systems that were used in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s with 8 inch floppy drives, drum hard drives, and the best IBM computers of the day.
In a lot of ways, stuff like this is why they don’t change over those systems. They’re like old cars, so simple and so insulated that they’re almost impossible to crash or hack.

We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem
Since it was an overnight outage...I'm wondering if it was a failed system update.
My initial thoughts were cyber attack but you'd think the attack would be timed for peak traffic.

is ctl+alt+del a gamer thing?
Long answer: Only to the extent that games are a thing that can be played on a computer.
Short answer: No.

Here you go, read this:

This is the OT, so, no political points should be discussed.

from your link
by pressing the Delete key while holding the Control and Alt keys: Ctrl+Alt+Delete
suggested switching the key combination to Ctrl+Alt+Del as a safety measure
to Windows NT logon procedures ("Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to log on")

funny how this thread turned from a pretty serious national event to discussing the origins of control-alt-delete.
Posted on 1/11/23 at 9:43 am to TopWaterTiger
keeps it from turning political.
