I’m fine with this just as long as we aren’t paying for their endless bouts in rehab.

You will likely be paying to get them drugs from the government... on top of whatever welfare they get.

If the government in Oregon were smart, they would increase enforcement of actual crime and put money into local police agencies, earmarked for increased staffing and training. That way the drug legalization laws could actually be successful.

But they are not smart. With crime (especially gun violence) currently increasing as they further neuter their police depts, the drug legalization will likely just exacerbate some of the current problems.

The .5% local public safety income tax that just started coming out of my paycheck says they might be smarter than you think.

Of all the scrutiny Oregon deserves as far as policy is concerned, I would think the allegedly freedom loving OT would be all about this

Have you been to Portland? While the war on drugs has been a failure, there is no way I can agree that hard drugs should be decriminalized.

So you admit that the war on drugs yet you want to keep it?

You afraid of giving adults personal responsibility?

Drugs are a serious issue in this country and the decriminalization of them WILL NOT help the very ones that need the help: the addicts. In fact, we're only opening up for my to be addicts.

And throwing them in jail without any kind of rehabilitation for drug use does?

That’s some stellar logic.

Just because it didnt work doesnt mean it cant work. If I were put in charge I would put in very harsh mandatory minimums in place for dealing hard drugs. I would pay for advertising on all mediums that if you get caught dealing your life is done. Then instead of throwing away billions across the world, I would spend that money at home getting addicts help... The sad part is that very few will ever amount to anything because the drugs have ruined them as a human 99 out of 100 times. Thats why I think it is so important to really clamp down on dealers, small or big time. They ruin not only the lives of the addicts, but many times their families and loved ones also.

Well, run of the mill hippie/neohippie potheads are relatively harmless.

Tweakers and junkies? Eh, not so much.

I don’t understand why Republicans are against freedom and personal responsibility.

Sure and when they take too much they have the freedom to die right there in the street and when they want off that shite they have the freedom to pay for their own rehab

I support this. The war on drugs has been a massive and expensive failure.

I'd probably support it more if homeowners were able to declare war on junkies breaking into their vehicles and garages.

I'd be all for it if drug overdoses and other drug abuse medical conditions were exempt from EMTALA or any other taxpayer-funded emergency medical services.

You want personal responsibility when it comes to drugs? You fricking got it buddy. Just try to OD in an out of the way corner.

The problem for Oregon is this is nothing but personal choice, but socialized responsibility for those choices.

not everyone is responsible enough for freedom. If you want to get your peers hooked on hard drugs and ruin their lives and families lives you should pay with your own.

The war on drugs is a contradiction for modern day small government, libertarian leaning conservatives.

This is where I'm at as a small-government conservative who's never done drugs. Legalize all of it with a few stipulations:
Don't operate a motor vehicle
Don't do it around schools
Don't sell it to kids

My only reservation is, because this is Facebook Mom Democrat America, my tax dollars will go to their rehabilitation. You're an adult. It's your body and mind to destroy. Just don't expect me to pay for your frick uppery.

you will pay for it, not only for multiple treatments, alot of times administering more drugs to them by the state, decreased property values, bums out of control everywhere, loss of use of public space like parks and sidewalks, business shutting down, pying for shite patrol. I cant imagine how anyone would ever want to legalize/decrimalize/whatever use of hard drugs, especially after spending a few days in somewhere like downtown portland.
