Why? The criminal nature isn't preventing people from using.

I don’t think rural Oregon is nearly the hotbed for drug use that Portland likely is due to cocaine, heroin, etc.

Let's not confuse failed leadership with decriminalizing drugs.

Have you ever had a bum twirling his hair, then spitting in his hand and throwing it against the wall right in front of you in line to get donuts? Have to trip over bums to walk down the sidewalk? Have bums sleeping all around a park when trying to enjoy the view? Have a bum making violent moves toward people while acting out in the middle of the street? I had all Of that in just a couple of days in Portland. We don’t need more of these people. They should be locked away from society if they can’t function.

War on drugs turned out like the original alcohol prohibition, filling prisons.

We need fewer laws and regulations, not more. People should be free.

All of this.

Sorry, failed leadership enables these types
Of policies. I don’t care what kind of leadership you have, if your platform is to allow hard drug use run rampant in your community you will end up
With a pile of shite just like we see in most large cities that don’t crack down on this.

Same place they've always came from, the CIA.

You’ll give your money to a guy on one corner, then you walk a block down the street where you’ll find a little baggie sitting on the ground. You just donated some money to a homeless person and found a little baggie of meth for your troubles.

All legal in Oregon.

So you’re saying we would have equal to or fewer meth addicts in this country if meth was available at 7-11?

OK, instead of a war on drugs, let's just declare a war on theft, prostitution, burglary, shoplifting, mugging, breaking into people's cars and child endangerment. You're going to round up the same sorry arse junkies anyway.

Nobody gives a shite that these people get high. It's that their life quickly devolves into a cycle of crime to feed their addiction. 95% of these people don't work jobs (or do anything productive) and they need money to feed their habit...so they rob and steal.

Decriminalizing drugs isn't going to fix the problem.

People in Portland should be required to smoke pot. Those folks need to mellow out.

If cocaine were available 24/7, or lighter amphetamines meth might not even be a thing.

The illegal nature of street pharmaceuticals make them far more dangerous and deadly. "Designer drugs" are more dangerous than the old traditional street drugs.

If you make drugs legal, I don't wanna hear the bitching about how bad addiction is and we need to help them. You're enabling them, let them fend for themselves and figure it out on their own.

What makes you think it will get worse? I have no desire to pick up Meth or Heroin and start using.

If you want to use drugs, you can find drugs to use.

I don't have much love for the political leanings of the people in Portland, but this would be a good thing if they would go even further with implementing this.

Everyone knows drugs are bad for you and will more than likely ruin your life (outside of recreational marijuana use and the occasional key bump). So make all drugs legal, but when anyone files for Medicaid/Medicare or any government assistance and they can't pass a drug test, well, they're denied.

I would be all for this, but we all know that the people who take advantage of this new policy will have a certain group of hardcore addicts who will then use medical resources that the bill will be passed on to taxpayers. No job equals no insurance equals State healthcare. And when they've hit rock bottom and want to get clean, they'll get the taxpayers to foot the rehab bill as well.

So follow all the way through and let these people go it completely alone.
