I don’t necessarily disagree with you that they should be legal, but you are burying your head in the sand

Hard drugs being illegal and the stigma associated with that absolutely keep some people away from doing them. You take that away and the amount of addicted will rise

The only problem I have is why is there a $100 fine? You have people who will risk everything even for small amounts of drugs..do you think they give a damn about a $100 fine? And what happens if you don't pay the fine? What happens if you run up $500 dollars in fines?

If they really want to decriminalize it, then just make the amounts legal. No charges/fines.

The war on drugs has been a massive and expensive failure.

Why? We could argue that it is " massive and expensive" to fight car theft, etc. Should we just give up on that because of that?
Drugs are a serious issue in this country and the decriminalization of them WILL NOT help the very ones that need the help: the addicts. In fact, we're only opening up for my to be addicts.

You want to look at the actual numbers in countries that have done this?

Yes, the government won't have their cash cow anymore.

How will it not help them? Instead of becoming felons maybe people can have an actual Chance in life now.

Member when potheads flowed like water to Colorado?

Watch how much Oregon improves with an influx of junkies and meth heads.

Do you think addiction should be a crime? I don't. Our prisons are filled with people on non violent drug charges. I'd prefer to try to help them rather than make them lifelong criminals.

Now if they are burglarizing houses to feed their habit frick em. I'd also create some basic laws around where they could use.

What do you think a meth or heroin addiction leads to?

Meth has been rampant in rural Oregon for decades - of course, a lot of rural America has dealt with that, but still.

...and it wasn’t the end of the world like predicted and now half the world is opening their eyes to legalizing weed? Yeah, I ‘member.

And if you could actually get them help and not just kick them out to the street not being able to get a job etc, that would go down too.

There's a giant gap between your average pot head and your average tweaker. Like, a huge difference.

They are doing it already. People who use meth or heroin don't care if it's legal. I don't think a bunch of regular citizens are going to go try heroin because it's all of the sudden not a jail sentence.

Actually I think the penalty here should be much much greater for dealing drugs like heroin and meth. I wouldn’t be against the death penalty for it because anyone that deals in those types of drugs has ruined multiple peoples lives. We will never win the “war on drugs” outside of the country.

So drugged up people behind steering wheels killing people is no problem, but we have to destroy the country guilting people into believing they are giving others the flu. Gotcha.

Have you ever had a bum twirling his hair, then spitting in his hand and throwing it against the wall right in front of you in line to get donuts? Have to trip over bums to walk down the sidewalk? Have bums sleeping all around a park when trying to enjoy the view? Have a bum making violent moves toward people while acting out in the middle of the street? I had all Of that in just a couple of days in Portland. We don’t need more of these people. They should be locked away from society if they can’t function.

I forgot about the naked lady screaming like a demon in the middle of the road at midnight. Yeah, driving to the downtown hotel from the airport I circle around off of a bridge exit and all of a sudden a naked woman pops off the sidewalk screaming like a banshee and moving like a zombie. Had to drive around that. It was surreal. Sorry, you can’t have a normal functional society freely allowing these psychopaths to run loose and do as they wish. Visit Portland. It’s a fricking zoo... or horror movie.

Are there numbers on this that shows that crime (or whatever we're supposed to be looking at) in CO rose in faster than the national average since 2012? Genuinely curious as I have no idea.

And what about other legal states besides CO? It's not the only legal state. Hell, it wasn't even the first so not sure why it's the bellwether.

Agree.

And society should be free of the responsibility to take care of their medical needs as a result of their choices.

Example: Don’t rush them to the hospital during an overdose.
