The sensible approach would have been to quarantine ALL high risk individuals and allow the rest to acquire herd immunity.

Not suggesting we do nothing. Quarantine them. Produce more ventilators. But the other 96% of the population has to continue to function

Would be great, but how is that done? Tell people 60
And older they can have no contact with those 59
And younger? It’s never black and white. And this virus is ridiculously contagious.

In short. Yes.

It’s basically what’s being done in the UK. We’ll see how it works.

You are right. It’s never black and white. But our attempt to make it black and white has made it a zero sum game.

Yes, tell everyone over 60 they have to self isolate. People that interact with them HAVE to cover their mouths, wash hands, etc. Will some people die? Yes? But, still better that destroying 100% of the populations livelihoods. They are expecting to deal with this in waves for 18 months. That’s the consequence of flattening the curve. The entire US economy will be on fire if this continues for 4 months.

Interesting. I knew they were initially going for full on herd immunity and last I had recalled reading were just quarantining the high risk.

Yes. England did an about face based on the same study that predicts we deal with this in waves for 18 months. The linked article is very informative (and highly concerning) if this is the actual plan.

Yeah, and the US is one large pre-existing condition. And besides, it’s not the death that freaks people out, it’s the non-dead that have to suck on a ventilator for a month that’s causing the crisis.

I'm not sure you understand what COPD is?

C stands for chronic. No known cure.

This fricking guy...what an absolute piece of shite. Hope you don't have an underlying condition you don't know about.

uh, 2 different trials, using the same drug have 100% cure rate within 6 days. So fearmonger on something else.

Well if I do...I’ll be one of the 17 people under 50 that died. That’s still like a .0000000000000001 chance.

Not fearmongering, the literal practical constraint is ventilator capacity.

But frick yeah if these trials found the answer to all of this! (Or at least a significantly “less bad” answer than the one we currently have).

frick your economy. You're being asked to sit at home for a little while and possibly get compensated by the government to do so. Chill the frick out and enjoy the time off.
