Why can’t they just get simple facts straight?

Have you been to the political board?
Does anyone remember "pizzagate"? Where that dude went into a pizza joint owned by some gays, with a gun, because he was convinced it was a bunch of kiddie touchers grooming kids in the back of the store?
This is the wikipage about it.

That was a conspiracy that spread on 4chan and other boards. What's crazy is that it seems like a lot of people who get caught up in it are not generally stupid people. They just get sucked into a hole keep going further down.

Were any of these people arrested and charged?
Did they all get off on the ‘some dude on the radio saying crazy shite made me do it’ defense?
Thanks for calibrating the common sense equation that needed to be addressed.
If "followers" crimes are the basis for indictment, where is the lawsuit against Maxine Waters and other sh*tstirrers(D) who condoned violence against conservatives?

He's being sued. There was no arrest for incitement.

People lie about things all the time. Those lies typically piss someone off. Twitter and other social media platforms is full of this type of stuff.
Did it really cause harm to the parents that this asshat said it was a hoax? Im sure it pissed them off, but harm? Seems to set the precedent that if a person tells a lie or conveys false info, then they can sue because if it makes them angry.
They can sue if the false statements caused them harm. That’s the entire purpose of defamation law. They are claiming Alex Jones’ false statements led to harassment and death threats.
It’s no different in principle than a company claiming that someone’s false statements caused the company to lose customers, or an individual claiming that someone’s false statements caused the individual to lose their job. In any of these cases, the harm comes from a third party (the customers or employer) but is caused by the false statements.
The difficult part is putting a monetary value on the harm from stuff like harassment and death threats. Jones could have argued this in court. He also could have tried to argue that his statements didn’t have anything to do with the death threats and harass manner. Hell, he could have argued that the claims weren’t false.. or that he he didn’t believe them to be false. But instead of actually arguing his case, he stalled for years and lost by default for refusing to comply with discovery. That’s pretty telling IMO.

Can the wife of the retired police officer who was murdered by blm rioters sue CNN and all the other media for praising blm while they murdered her husband in cold blood?
frick BLM, but you don’t seem to understand what defamation even is. If CNN makes false statements about the police officer and those statements lead to his murder, the family absolutely has a case. That is not the same thing as “praising BLM” though.

Just curious, but why is this being tried in Texas?
Posted on 8/5/22 at 9:49 am to STLDawg
Alex Jones lives in Texas and does his show from Texas. I assume his allegedly defamatory statements were made in Texas. Though I imagine there are also other courts with jurisdiction. I believe there are cases also pending in Connecticut.

I'm pretty sure whoever started that took that plotline from Justified and ran with it just to frick with gullible neckbeards.

So he has to pay them 4 mil for saying mean things on the radio and hurting feelings? Right or wrong of him to say, this seems outrageous
No. He has to pay for perpetuating a lie to his followers because he was making money off of the lie. One of his own employees at InfoWars harassed the parents to the point of being charged as well.
That’s a smidge more than hurt feelings and what defamation suits should be used to address.

It’s my understanding that’s just compensatory damages and a jury will now decide the punitive amount he’ll have to pay. So he will very likely end up paying quite a bit more.
