Being an empty suit with no ideas of your own doesn't mean that you're "doing no harm" as a politician. It might just mean that you're a rubber stamp for the harmful ideas of others.

I live in Alabama and follow our politics somewhat closely.

It is most definitely not true that "everyone" or even a sizable percentage of voters believes that Ivey is a closeted lesbian. (I personally doubt that's the case.)

Yes, it would hurt her politically if a large segment of voters believed she was gay. This is a state where a majority of GOP primary voters thought Roy Moore should be a U.S. senator.

Less pervy, but equally incompetent, and equally a joke. At least she keeps her mouth shut most of the time unlike Bentley. It's just a shame most of the state didn't see him for the joke he was during his first term and actually reelected him for a second term. But as long as you have that R by your name on the ballot it almost doesn't matter how bad of a candidate you are in this state, even Roy Moore almost got elected to the Senate after everybody knew he was a kiddie diddler

I don’t know or really care who she’s bedding down. But what cracks me up is when the Dems (usually the Hollywood sect) scream that the abortion bills are sexist and designed by old white men solely to control women’s bodies. Um, the female governor signed the bill for a Bama, so there’s that....

You do realize that governors have nothing to do with the construction of individual bills, right?

Even a veto would have been pointless, had she felt like doing so.

Not sure a veto is ever pointless even if original vote was high enough to override. Regardless she seemed supportive of pro-life positions even before this.

quote:

During her campaign for governor in 2018, she won the endorsement of several anti-abortion groups, saying in response to the Susan B. Anthony List's letter of endorsement that she "will always defend unborn life, starting at conception, and advocate for those who are unable to advocate for themselves."

It wouldn't matter. Folks don't care about the character of the politician, only that she or he will give them what they want.

A politician could say, "Look folks. I don't give damn about family values. And I think religion is for suckers and fools. I love philandering, usually with folks of the same sex, and I lie constantly. But I will always support anti-abortion laws, and will oppose any law that helps or advances the cause of any minority."

A shite ton of voters would say, "That's our man!" (or woman)

It's not a big deal. I think it's kind of sad she chooses to not live her life openly for political reasons, but that's her choice to make.
