524 now. Part of the drastic increase is probably some increased testing capacity, but I believe there is significant community spread in the Birmingham metro.

Considering that a church had mass testing available well before any government agency or hospital, I’d say so.

No denying that there is some community spread in B'ham, but the Jefferson County numbers haven't been increasing that much. And there is a lot more testing than there was.

Tuscaloosa announced a 24 hr curfew starting Sunday and running till April 11

The press conference tonight from the Mayor and a couple docs was pretty pathetic.

We have 20 cases.

Copy Cat Leadership.

Not saying there isn’t anything to be concerned about, but Mayors see other Mayors getting publicity and want to do the same thing.

Bham didn’t do a shelter in place until they saw Atlanta do it

He referenced the latest doomsday charts that have been circulating for a couple days that list nationwide death tolls in the millions unless we act now.

One of the doctors referenced 20 year olds on ventilators.

Seemed pretty unnecessary.

There were 99 there yesterday with 19 on vents.

As of this afternoon there were 34 on the vent.

The death number and death growth rate seems much more important to me.

It kinda gives me a view of how things are going. I am not an expert but to me it means the more deaths we have the more people we have in ICU and and then a % of the ICUs are on vents.

Once the deaths and death growth rate starts leveling out, it means we are getting things under control one way or the other.

I feel the same way! From the beginning, when it hit China, I thought it was something to watch. The death numbers were so low out of China, that while they closed down, I really was not concerned. I really did not get worried until it hit Italy.

Again, I’m not saying measures in any city shouldn’t take place. It just becomes obvious when it’s done because Mayors/Officials want the spotlight, are scared of being the last one to respond, or both. You see it all the time with snow days and severe weather.
