Alabama is on the clock... update : 1st case confirmed

They are setting up 2 drive up testing sites today and results in 4 hours so I figure our number will rise today

Its been there since December...UAB was having issues with an unknown pulmonary " thing" in December...they are just testing now and finding it because of that. Still a nothingburger.

if it is true, it was only a matter of time. my concern is my wife has Celiac, and her immune system is shite because of it - we agree it is a matter of when she gets it because she catches everyone cold/flu when they are around her.

It's been here. Grandview has had cases of all the symptoms and negative for the flu. They are supposed to release today that 2 nurses have it.

The dam is likely going to break in Alabama today. Way too much smoke of positive tests from Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Huntsville over the past few days. I'd imagine we'll have 5 or 6 confirmed cases today, and more over the weekend.

State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris released the following statement:
"The Alabama Department of Public Health has worked hard to prepare and has anticipated receiving a report of the first case of COVID-19 in an Alabama resident. We continue to recommend that people be prudent and encourage them to use proper hygiene behaviors such as handwashing, not touching their faces with unwashed hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if they have fever. As a precaution, it is suggested that any gatherings of more than 500 people be postponed or canceled.”

If you listen closely, though, you can hear the lawyers stirring, figuring out how to sue the frick out of someone because there were tests/weren't tests/tests were too fast or too slow/mobile test were available or you had to go inside, etc.

I know of one that's putting their plan in place now to close the week after spring break. They're waiting to get all their ducks in a row before announcing though. This system is not in the Birmingham area.
