Did Galveston pass a local law that doesn't allow AirBNB's? Whats the back story....

I was wondering the same, she just kind of threw out a random post without any backstory or context on why this is a big deal or what’s causing it

Have yall seen how expensive the listings are in 30A Seaside Florida? Many millions very far from the beach. Anything ON or very near the back is 10 mill plus

30A is pushing into S FL pricing, we will see if it’s sustainable.

Sysco Seafood

Imagine serving up seafood on the coast, but it's flash frozen Sysco meals.

Galveston is kind of a dump.

Its the only place (outside of Louisiana) that resembles Grand Isle. Based on the smell alone.

Insurance is probably killing them. I pay $7500 a year in Spring Texas. Property tax is also brutal in Texas.

I honestly don't see how yall afford that.

30A is nice and all, but its nothing to write home about.

However as Chuck Barkley says, that water/beach is just gross

If you saw the movie "The Shallows" with Blake Lively, the end scene shows her returning to the beach in Gavelston. They show it looking something like Pensacola...white sand with turquoise water...I immediately starting laughing

Fast forward to the 3:15 mark
Ending to "The Shallows"

Property Tax Rate Galveston County 1.55%

750K ABB $11,475 annually =o $956.00 per month

+ Insurance (estimate) $3,500 annually Flood $2,000 = $458.00 monthly

So you are looking at $1,400.00 a month not counting the mortgage

With the looks of that map you ain't gonna be anywhere near 100% full even in the peak season

Bonus : Galveston is a shite hole commonly referred to in Texas as Galvatraz

Insurance is a major part, which is also killing South Louisiana.

30A, Destin, Ft Walton, etc has some of the nicest beaches in the world. Don't be salty bc you can't afford to vacation there.

Senate Bill 15 — a top priority for Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who leads the Senate — would reduce the amount of land cities require single-family homes in new subdivisions to sit on. The idea is to reduce the final cost of new homes by allowing homebuilders to construct smaller homes on smaller lots. The bill cleared the Senate by a 28-3 vote.

All that is is more tax revenue for the state.
