It means that he won't be an Air BNB host much longer
Stupid shite. They'll give him 1 star and put him in Air BNB jail.
Why not leave it at 70.

bullshite.. lol at your ‘that’s all you can do’.. You can immediately check out and book somewhere else, if there’s availability .. if not then there are plenty of good responses in this thread regarding ‘what you can do .’
ETA i agree though that it should be pre-disclosed and a lot of this could be avoided .
I can 100% guarantee this Air BNB owner will not pull this again too many times. 1 star rating and a nasty review.
Whoever says it's a win for the owner is a total idiot. Air BNB takes ratings extremely seriously and no one's booking your place if your rating gets too low.
Furthermore, Air BNB will shut your arse down if you get too many bad reviews. I'm talking like, 3 in a row will probably get your listing suspended. Even 3 stars you get an email saying this is stuff you need to work on and it has a red exclamation point and all that shite. 1 star basically tells Air BNB "shut this place down immediately".

That’s fine if he wants grease poured down the drain, horrible reviews, and every light left on. In fact all the lamps would be moved right next to the thermostat.
I did not think about that. But with led you might need to aim a hairdryer at it.

Should be at 82 degrees.

Why would anyone still stay in an airbnb? It isn’t 2014.
I bet they are full of hidden cameras to keep an eye on what you’re doing. Not to mention trying to get zoomed in shots of your butthole.

Thermostat at 80 in FL should be justification for deadly force.

Go to Home Depot and get a $15 thermostat. Swap it out in 5 minutes and put the temp wherever you want. Put the original thermostat back when you’re leaving.

I agree that AirBNB isn’t always ideal.. but if you are going to be somewhere for 3 or 4 weeks, compare the price of staying in a hotel vs the price of staying in most AirBNBs and then get back to me.. honestly even staying somewhere for two weeks will usually be way more expensive in most hotels than in most AirBNBs .. not “in 2014”, but in 2024 .

I took care of a couple Beachfront Condos back in the day. The renters would have the AC pegged as low as it would go and every window and glass door wide open most of the day...
We have a couple of AirBnBs at the beach. Yeah, folks run the AC hard. No biggie.
We did have to limit the AC at 67 though. Our service company recommended it to help limit potential damage. 67 is pretty damn cold and honestly, most renters (99%) put it at 70 and never touch it. With 67 the limit, not one has ever actually tried to set it lower.

Since smart thermostats rely on internet connectivity to communicate with remote servers and mobile devices, an internet outage can limit their ability to receive commands and transmit data. As a result, you may lose the convenience of remote temperature adjustments and real-time monitoring during the duration of the disruption.

Is there any concern about the owners having cameras hidden inside the house?

In my over 1,500 nights in Scariott hotels, the first thing I do is jam that thermostat as low as it'll go, in expectations I may get 69 degrees if I'm lucky.
Then I went to a hotel in Abu Dhabi, were setting it in the 50s meant, it was going to get into the 50s. It was glorious and scary to wake up to sweating marble walls.
At an AirBNB, I'd be out immediately if the stat wouldn't allow 70. In the Northeast, you'll often suffer with the building either being on heat or on A/C, and you don't get a choice. Having to leave a window open in Manhattan to not bake in October sucks balls.

They have apps on the app store that kind of do it (scan WiFi for unknown or suspicious devices, identify infrared, etc), but they can't do all types of hidden cameras. Women are usually the ones that worry about this and are also dumb enough to think those apps are foolproof.

Mostly agree, but I’m on a trip with the family on the Olympic Peninsula. In Seattle, hotel. But once we headed west your options are basically fleabag hotel/motel or Airbnb. So far our two Airbnb’s have been awesome. Plenty of space, clean, no AC restraints. Both had coffee provided, plus fruit, bagels, closet full of board games. Current place even had a hot tub overlooking the Olympic Mountains.

Airbnb kings getting a taste of arm cost of capital and trying to pass that along is peak hilarity. If your margins are dictated by the power bill then you get what’s coming to you.

I think you and i might be the same person.. except you are even more hardcore than i am- i calculated that i have spent over 2.5 years of my life in Scariott hotel rooms, but according to ur #s you have apparently spent over 4 years of your life in hotel rooms
