When they get that bill they might need an ambulance

ETA: Apparently this is an old bump and I made almost the exact same joke last time. I’m stale

We live 40 minutes from a major hospital in Baton Rouge, we see air med choppers often. If we see them, we like to see them land and leave quickly, sometimes they land and stay awhile, that makes a really bad situation much worse.

It’s called Trauma and not what most young people especially women think is trauma it’s physical trauma not because daddy wouldn’t buy you a new car.

My mom was after her stroke.

You want to have an indescribable feeling, be standing in a hospital as you hear a helicopter with your mom on it landing.

I know two old baws who were at the camp. One of them has a heart attack and they call 911. They make it to the dock and the helicopter is waiting. Baw #2 says, he made it like 2 hours from the camp. Just let an ambulance take him, it’ll be way cheaper.

He lived.

I got a $110,000 lear jet ride down to Seattle because the idiot doctor at the ER couldn't read an MRI.

Rural America it happens all the time. Better have your helicopter membership lined up because If you stroke out and it’s serious an hour from the closest hospital that can handle you they are calling a medflight.

Insurance pays very little on those bills. I’ve heard of people getting $30-40k bills from me flight operators.

But if you pay thar $800 a year membership fee that shits free.

Not the same type of airlift, but my son and I took a jet from Baton Rouge to Texas Children's at 7 days old.

My cousin was thrown off of her horse on a trail in the middle of nowhere. She was knocked unconscious, and broke several bones in her upper body. She had to be airlifted, because a helicopter was the only thing that could get to her.

Didn’t ask her how much she payed. Judging by the previous responses, I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. The funny thing is the doctor prescribed some pain meds, sent her home, and told her to come back for her surgery a few days later.

Guy at my hunting club got airlifted after his stand snapping and he fell 20 feet to the ground.

I've worn a harness ever since.

If the first responders determine you only have an hour to live without immediate medical intervention you are going on the choppers. Also assuming you didn’t crash within a few minutes of a major trauma center.

It rarely happens. II guess you have to be important. How does this work?

It happens a lot more than you think, and just pray to God it's not you...

Buddy of mine was air lifted after having a massive MI in the midfield at Talladega..

Happens often. I was a fireman in charge of extra sting car wreck victims. Those air med pilots are bad asses!

Neighbor killed his wife then put a bullet in his head in my front yard about a decade ago - Acadian sent the chopper out and landed it on the property. So no, not important - just way out in the sticks where it'd be quicker to fly than drive.

We have a subscription to an airlift service. Pretty necessary here. Especially after I saw the price tag on the other.

Insurance settled for 90k, I didn't have to pay out of pocket. The Hospital should have been liable.

A teammate broke his leg so bad during a football game he had to be airlifted. Pretty surreal

My son’s friend broke his fenur riding motocross last year and was airlifted. Think the bill was $40K - not sure how his insurance handled it. Airlifting for injuries is fairly routine at motocross tracks, especially for femurs. Years ago a young kid almost bled out at the track because a torn femoral artery sometimes results from a broken femur.
