$270,000 will buy you 3,000 one way bus tickets to San Francisco.

Offer each a $100, a sack lunch, and bottle of liquor to get on the bus, and their homeless problem could be cut in half in a week.

Imagine getting graft for a project that will do nothing to alleviate the problem it ostensibly solves. Just keep doing that shite and rake in the money.

Most overrated city on earth. I went a couple years ago and we spent 3 days trying to locate the hype.

This reminds me of a "study" new york did a while back on getting rid of a couple hundred deer somewhere in long island. They spent several million on a study on how to do it.

eta: 240m/3k is 80k per person

Me too or at least on of the top 5. It certainly has kept me going downtown as much especially anywhere close to the ARCH.

Whatever happened to the plan to relocate the ARCH to east Austin? I’d be ok if the city uses my taxes to do that. I thought there was talk of building a new center out by the COTA.

But they still will not live in it.

Lack of available housing is not the reason for the homelessness. They choose not to reside in a traditional dwelling.

as Joe Rogan complained about Austin homeless yet?

I thought it was very ironic that he cites the rampant homeless problem in LA as part of his reason for leaving, then he moves to Austin.

Fact.

We have more programs for homeless than any place I have ever been, but many refused them because of rules.

The US doesn’t have a homeless problem, we have a relocation problem. There’s affordable housing in other parts of the country for people.

Apparently Austin is to Texas as that mole was to Cindy Crawford's face. WTF is wrong with that city.

If these folks were seeking shelter, they would find it. This is a mental illness and blind-eye problem.

my son in Austin a number of years ago got pushed into a gov't funded rental for his house. the renters left after 2 months occupancy and left 50 thousand in damages . Gov't said they had no accountability to repair.

I would not be an owner of a rental house in Austin

Most of the "mental illness" is drug use. Only about 1/4 are really seriously mentally ill.

fricking dumb

Homelessness is not because of lack of housing

It is about mental illness and addiction
