Why do you people do this?

Have you ever thought maybe you could learn something here yourself?

Incentives to landlords

Who in their right mind would lease to bums, regardless of the “incentives”.

by offering incentives to landlords

Will that offset the rents lost by those landlords by other residents that want nothing to do with this shite?

Not doubting your story, but how the frick did the tenants do $50,000 worth of damage in two months? Were the just using it as a crack house?

Also, how do you get pushed into a govt rental program? I owned a rental house with a couple of partners. We eventually went Section 8 with the property, but no one forced us into it. (It was actually kind of a pain in the arse to initially meet all of the requirements.)

Let's not put too much thought into this problem. They WANT to live on the streets, right?

My first "real" job out of grad school was at First Commerce Corp, a large LA bank holding company. There was a panhandler who hung out on the corner of Baronne and Gravier near the entrance to First NBC. He was obviously delusional. He looked about 60, but might have been only 35 or 40. Had several years of beard growth. He was usually barefoot and could use a trip to the podiatrist, or at least a pedicure. He looked like a shabby, barefoot, black Santa Claus.

One day I was walking with a co-worker who remarked, "He probably makes more money than we do." I was surprised by how unconcious to reality this co-worker was. We weren't making a fortune, but I was sure we were getting paid more than the homeless guy on the corner. If he was faking it, he was a master of his craft. He had talons for toenails and Mardi Gras feet. His hair and beard were matted and uncombed. He looked and acted crazy. Not dangerous or aggressive, but bat shite crazy. If it was all an act, he deserved an Academy Award.

Most aren’t homeless because they can’t afford it or had it repossessed by the bank.

They have addiction and/or mental health issues that need to be dealt with. Providing a “home” isn’t gonna solve that.
