Word was, Frank Sinatra wanted to buy one of the chandeliers for his house, they wouldn’t sell because they’re one of a kind. Glad to see they’re still intact..
Went to my first concert there, Rush, moving Pictures tour, Easter Sunday, when people sill smoked weed at concerts.

I was at that Jethro Tull concert. Went to a few Mardi Gras balls there too. I always liked the carvings up near the ceiling that were names of artists, musicians, writers, etc. Teenage me was amused by the name Balzac.

I remember sitting on top of the bench and you could smell the players by the 3rd period.

The best. And Oreo screaming at the opponents in the penalty box.

Some of the smaller organizations host their balls in other venues.

Just turn it into the municipal ice rink. Seriously.
Give the people of this hellscape something to do during the summer. A municipal owned and funded ice rink would be a true civic service.

I remember Nagin was trying to pay his childhood buddy “Bernardo” a mil as a consultant for this - Bernardo had zero experience with anything except muhdickery in the city and was missing teeth. Not kidding

Didn’t they have a casino in here for a while when it was first legalized?
Update- looked it up it was a temporary casino in 1999 while Harrah’s was being constructed. I remembered losing some money there.

I don’t think it was 1999. It opened in May of 1995, and closed in six months when the project went bankrupt in November right before Thanksgiving. The temporary casino was making 60% less than expected revenues for the project.
Main casino at the foot of Canal opened in 1999.

Bruh, do you think people don’t smoke weed at concerts these days!?
The last time I saw Billy Strings it was like being inside a bong.
(And I’ve seen Rush several times)

There was an idea some time back to demolish the place and replace it with a new City Hall complex. Problem is, no one has any real idea what to do with even a renovated Auditorium. Parades now go to Convention Center Blvd. Saenger gets smaller shows. Mid South Wrestling is long gone. Minor League hockey really never caught on.
It's really something of a White Elephant.

Mine was there in 1979, as was pretty much every NO area Catholic school.
Don't know if public schools were held there.

Damnit I was born about ten years too late to enjoy any of this besides listening to cd’s. So many live shows wish I could’ve seen
