I cannot grasp how some people believe their wants and desires should trump a business owner's right to run his business as he or she sees fit.

Me either.

The original law didn't even include exceptions for cigar bars. They added it in at the last minute. If you go to Churchills and bitch about the cigar smoke than you are an idiot.

I understand where your opinion lies, I just disagree with it from a public health perspective. I assume you'd also be ok with drinking being an option in any business where the owner thinks it'd be good for business?

So you don't think that businesses have to follow any laws, rules, or regulations other than this smoking thing?

Why should the government be able to tell businesses that they can't engage in legal activities within the confines of their establishment? Surely you understand that concept, right?

I would support the complete abolition of liquor licensing laws tomorrow.

No but you drinking in excess might cause you to make a bad decision. Like kill my family by deciding to drive.

Well, there's a law against that. Same with public intoxication, fighting, etc. So it's a legal activity that has laws and regulations that limit when and where you can do it and how you're punished if you do something bad while under its influence. Just like smoking.

If you're arrested for drunk driving, you're on public property, not private property. They don't have tge same rules. This isn't tough.

While it benefits me to have smoking banned from bars due to allergies, I still find the whole thing insane considering that most people who want to drink also want to smoke.

It’s one of the few logical places outside of a home where someone would be expected to smoke.

Smoking is regulated too. A ban is when you can't do something. Smoking is still legal. You just can't do it in certain places. shite, being naked is legal, but I can't take off my clothes and go shopping at Whole Foods or plop down my bare arse in a restaurant.

As long as they're private businesses, I don't see the issue. As part of some people's personal state licensing, they cannot be under the influence while working, so I don't see how this is a valid point.

Yes, and those places are typically considered public places subject to public rules. You're having a tough time with this.

I enjoy the ban. Never been out more, honestly.
opposite for me.

Non-smoker here, but some of my friends smoke. Since they are unaccommodated in bars and such. . .we just hang at the house and drink there.

I'm sorry the bars are going under. . .but elections have consequences. . .

I'm actually not having a tough time at all. I'm fine with the "move smoking outside" movement.

It's not entirely unlike the personnel laws that dictate who business owners can hire or fire, or serve or not serve. There was a time where those didn't exist and when they were instituted I'm sure folks took issue with it. You guys probably still do, but they were right.

I see their point, I just don't agree with it. And public opinion is showing the collective mindset is in favor of what's happening. Cigarette smoking continues to decline and that's something we should all celebrate.
