Hey! Let's have a society with norms of behavior and rites of passage instead of a chaotic shitshow for man-children! Because NASA didn't play adult kickball on the moon, they played fricking golf!
When I see older men on skateboards, I assume they haven’t grown up.
That may or may not be fair. But that’s what it suggests.
This is the age of the puer aeternis. Jung’s eternal child.
quote:
Puer aeternus. Latin for “eternal child,” used in mythology to designate a child-god who is forever young; psychologically it refers to an older man whose emotional life has remained at an adolescent level, usually coupled with too great a dependence on the mother.

This phenomenon is unfortunately common, and has a lot to do with the breakdown in traditional culture.
All of the male rites of passage have been destroyed, in the name of gender equity, for example.
Those were important because they were a mechanical way to separate boy from mother, and launch boys into manhood.

Most “adults” have hypertension, are pre diabetic and look depressed as hell with their guts and turkey gobbler jaw lines.
We should really be looking at what the average grown up professional adult does and doing the exact opposite.

Honest answer, I think modernity has been awful for most men. As you say, look at the average adult male.

Judging from the waist size of the avg American adult male, more of them should ride skateboards.

If I had my same 1985 Madrid John Lucero with gullwing trucks right now, I’d ride the shite of it too.

Never ever as a adult drink and get on a skate board. Your head will bounce like a basketball on the concrete. Been there, done that.

The only adult I know that stepped on a skateboard in the last twenty years immediately rolled her ankle 90 degrees and ended up with a compound fracture.

True story, Fred Astaire broke his arm skateboarding in his sixties.

One of God's great gifts to mankind is seeing someone skateboarding on the street biff it.

I’m 54 and I can still do it.
Long boards are easy.

I do some surfing and ride a skate board with my kids a bit, but I never really understood the idea of using it as actual transportation unless you’re a kid going to their buddy’s house.

That was my thought too. And he bumped it to say "skateboarding is awesome"
In regards to it, I think that anyone who finds a healthy way to commute that's good for the environment a great thing that should be encouraged.

I'm 42, so I'm too young for a midlife crisis, but I've been watching skateboarding videos lately and have given thought to picking it up again.
Pros: Being able to kickflip again would be awesome, and impress everyone around me
Cons: A shattered pelvis would probably ruin my week.
