Well, when most cases are from nursing homes...

Did you even bother to read the article?

It shows that 66% of new admissions were from people who had largely been sheltering at home. The next highest source of admissions was from nursing homes, 18%.

Most new Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York state are from people who were staying home and not venturing much outside, a “shocking” finding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

It’s only shocking because you applied “flatten the curve” strategies and then shifted the narrative to “zero cases.”

ummm no they haven't

they just started letting restaurants do take out, as they were previously closed altogether

people still are not allowed to travel out of their province

Ummm

You do realize that the new case rate is half what it was.

Nothing in the link indicates staying at home increases chance of catching it.

Just that now that they have locked down, most of those infected are people who “sheltered in place.”

More cases from staying home. Staying home kills. That’s how the experts have been extrapolating data from very small data sources, so I will do the same

So you're being a contrarian ignoring that correlation does not equal causation, making yourself look like an idiot, because you got your shite rustled by Cuomo?

Dont bother.

My new stance is to take any bit of data and stretch it as much as needed to fit my agenda, or to straight up lie

I think it’s the only way to try and get us back. People are dumb Look how many believe the propaganda on the other side of this

Very much like the Craig James killed 5 hookers power play

I don’t know if you can make that argument, it’s just that staying at home doesn’t eliminate the risk of exposure.

Perhaps people would be better off if they had an opportunity to get some exercise though and see sunlight. Especially older individuals with weaker immune systems.

Being cooped at home isn’t healthy.

The virus mainly affects older people. Older people don't get out as much, and even less so during the outbreak. They still come on contact with family members, delivery people, etc. It's not like the act of staying home causes them to get it.

Sure, but this would just suggest that old people are going to get this regardless, no?

Many are going to eventually get this because it seems pretty unavoidable even if they stay home and whether or not others lockdown and stay home is my takeaway from this. What are the holes in that logic?

Eh, I am no fan of how these lockdowns are progressing, but that's to be expected. There's going to be an enormous sample bias looking at hospitalizations.

Think of it like this:
- Most of the population is abiding by a lockdown
- The population that is not following the lockdowns or that is deemed essential and is still out and about working will very much tend to be on the younger and healthier side of things
- They will catch it and either be asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic
- They will spread it to friends and family who are following lockdowns
- Some of those friends and family will be more acutely vulnerable than those who are out and about
- That will be the population that is presenting to hospitals with severe cases
This all sounds very logical.

So my question, as in the post above, would be what tangible difference then does it make if the younger/healthier people are in quarantine or not? At some point, they are going to get it(speaking generally of course) and possibly be asymptomatic and likely pass it on.

I don't fully see how the quarantine stops this from happening, seems like it just prolongs the inevitable. It was originally in place for exactly that reason to spread it out and not overwhelm hospital systems as I understand it.

Where exactly does it say locking down increases rates?

It could be that most new cases are people that are locked down because most people are locked down. It could also be that people not sheltering in place tend to be lower risk people.

So, if old people locked down get this virus while we are all locked down, what exactly is the point of locking down again?

So we're locking down for what reason then?
