Another thing on that topic is how minority groups are racist among each other. For example , Koreans and Chinese and Vietnamese don’t all get along. Same with Puerto Ricans and Mexicans

There’s also the economic angle. The Irish in New England were very racist, they also competed with free blacks for the same jobs.

It was more complicated than that. They also found community and kindness, to the degree that many African-Americans took Irish surnames. The scholarship on this is really wonderful. They generally lived in the same areas of town, and faced discrimination, for different reasons.

The celebration of the Confederacy in places like East Tennessee is pretty odd to me. There were numerous pro-Union areas of the South.

Well....90% of the south wasn't involved in slavery.

Are purple and gold Confederate flags acceptable for coonasses to fly?

This is very true - the Irish Channel in New Orleans was always mixed - for the most part people didn’t really like each other but they left each other alone too

The scholarship complicates this significantly.

Maybe they were just a bunch of pussies.

But what do you romanticize? Nothing? Or is romanticizing things just for all morons? Or are there things to romanticize that makes you less of a moron?

Many of the Capitol insurrectionists were waving them.

Well I was just making a guess.

70-75% of confederate soldiers weren't for slavery....they were just defending themselves from union armies and "jayhawkers".

Doesn't change the fact that many confederate soldiers found themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place when it came to the Civil war.

And yet you approve of being called a coonass. People can fly whatever flag they want. You think Acadians were supportive of gay people? How do you think they would like people flying a gay rainbow flag?

Pleas enlighten me on how Acadians are supposed to think and their historical norms.
