We were exiled from our native land similar to the Indians and Mexicans so we have more in common with them than we do with those redneck morons from Alabama.

Our ancestors also just spoke French.... I guess we shouldn’t be speaking English too... right?!?

I looked up the history on Fold.com of my family's Civil War service record. Both the Cajun and non-Cajuns served in the Confederacy. A pair even served in the same unit 80 years before my grandparents would join the families. Very cool.
So I guess maybe your claim is simply that the deep woods, off the reservation Cajuns didn't want to participate in any national struggle. Which is perhaps a much more supportable claim.
On the contrary, my relatives that lived in Union states served the Union. So the reality is, by and large, people served on the side that represented their state.

Two of my maternal grandfathers fought for the confederacy. One being captured at Vicksburg. Walked back home to Grand Caillou after the war.

Do you own anything with a Fleur-de-lis on it? I bet you do.
Go ahead and look up how it was used as a symbol for the Code Noir.

I read or heard in a lecture one time that one of the places the King of France offered for colonization by the Acadians were the Falkland Islands. Very few of them took him up on it, and some of those that did backed out (some even got off the ship after getting on it).
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the Acadians actually went back to France for a time after leaving Canada but before coming to Louisiaan.

Mais, the OT is some grumpy today, chere.
Another interesting point - it seems like when the the King of France invited the Acadians to join the Falkland Island colonization effort, he threw in a sweetener that they could continue to receive their "welfare" or "daily dole" even if they went.

uhhh... I think that this is a little more accurate.
quote:
The confederacy’s 11 states had 316,632 slave owners out of a free population of 5,582,222. This
equals 5.67 percent of the free population of the confederacy were slave owners.

The Marxists, including the OP hate the fact that North and South reconciled after the Civil War. They are godless and can't even comprehend the concept forgiveness. Above all the Acadians valued the Church above all, something I bet the OP also resents.

This and the Southerners were pardoned and not considered traitors.
