I imagine it’s the same in elementary and junior high because they start changing classes in 3rd grade.
Even if so, you think taking roll takes 15 minutes

Long days in class aren't working. Kids aren't engaged as it is.

My elementary aged kids are pretty well spent after a regular day. Factor in extracurricular activities and both parents working. It's a struggle getting studying, reading time and homework done in a 5 day week. Not sure where that time comes from if you tack on 2 more hours of class time.
I will never understand why some elementary schools give kids nightly homework. You send your kid to school to learn, not be taught at home.

Poor use of class time. Elementary kids should never have homework.

Most people I know that work 4 days a week are off on Fridays, not Mondays.
Why give the kids off on a Monday?

I bet Finland doesn’t use common core either. That’s a whole different discussion.
Add demographic and culture to the student body.

Louisiana is already last in education nationally, so frick it can’t get any worse right?
This is pathetic and a detriment to the future of this state. It’ll only continue to sink

It’s not the school systems responsibility to babysit kids
It's still the practical reality of it.

Numerous school districts across the country and this state are doing this with success but I guess you know best

and to top it all off, they chose monday as the off day. just lol

Because you have teachers deciding when teachers get to work less for the same pay. Inmates running the asylum. It only has to benefit them.

Awesome move. The 4-day school and work week has been a huge success prior to Covid.
It gives more time to people to get things done, spend money, and stops wasting a Friday, when no one does anything anyhow.

Districts are trying to get more teachers to their district. This is becoming one way to get them. $ day work week is appealing to new teachers. Again lets remember school isn't babysitting and is about getting an education. One of the reasons our education rank is dropping compared to other countries is that parents think school is for babysitting and they don't want to have any responsibility of their child's education

The teachers didn't decide this moron
The majority of parents and the teachers who responded to the multiple polls sent out wanted a 4 day week with the off day being Friday

cause universities are coddling the college students. Its fricking laughable.
It's not "coddling" students. It's just much more efficient than 8 hours a day no matter what.

Why do we make 1st graders sit through class for 8 hours a day but college students sit through at most 4 hours a day?
What 1st grade class were you in? That level is basically still daycare with lunch break, recess and naps.
You aren’t doing 8 hours of lecture.

The one where I didn’t sit through 8 hours of lecture.

Well if all the parents can swing it, great. It's not viable in most places with how things currently are. The last thing the average family needs right now is figuring out how to pay for one day week of childcare to protect teachers from burnout
Sucks to suck I guess. We are in this position because average parents are terrible at raising children.
