So how long before the logic becomes, wasting a thursday when no one does anything anyhow?

What about Wednesday? Or Tuesday?

Also so much about how much can get done on a Friday or Monday in a 4 day work week? Well if everyone is only working 4 days and off Friday, then what are you getting done? Everything is closed???

Multiple parishes/districts have this in LA and are excelling
These places are not affluent areas and the demographics are pretty mixed

So maybe you should shut up about this because you clearly know nothing

This is stupid, I hope some group sues to stop this. The kids being out of school unsupervised on a Monday when most have to be at work will be a cluster. Additionally the public schools are already failing kids as is how do they think adding 2 hours to a day when kids already have attention span issues is going to go for them

lol yea I'm a teacher idiot

I've seen it work for 20+ years where I live so maybe I have some experience with it and my kids go to Catholic school so it doesn't affect me personally but the majority of parents whose kids have attended these schools love it.

Also why is everyone ignoring the fact that most of the parents in Acadia parish are for the 4 day week?

Quite the run on sentence. Yea, I bet the kids love it. That's not really an effective parenting strategy though, so not sure why you think that carries any weight.

Cool, we obviously aren't just talking about the one area anymore. Maybe if you weren't a teacher idiot you'd have caught onto that by now.

Maybe you should try some reading comprehension

Which is dumb because the length of instruction today is already too long. Why do we make 1st graders sit through class for 8 hours a day but college students sit through at most 4 hours a day?

College students are expected to spend significant additional time outside of class studying and doing assignments, unsupervised.
For a worthwhile degree, it is absolutely a must if you want to pass with a good grade. Plenty of college lectures could be cut because they're no help towards passing the class.
I am not saying that 8 hours of class time for a 1st grader is all that beneficial towards learning, but this comparison is apples to oranges. A college student should treat college as their first real full time job and dedicate 40 hours a week to it, if not more.

You're definitely not an English teacher.

Elementary school kids should spend more time playing and socializing than sitting at a desk.

You do realize 90% of the reason Louisiana is lagging behind other states in education is due to demographics/shitty parenting right? Changing the structure of the school week isn’t changing those issues.

People will figure it out.

School isn't a day care center.

Interesting. Wonder how this will work out?

Maybe we can get some home schoolers to chime in. They get more with less.

So spending more time with those shitty parents is definitely the answer huh? This is the reason the education system is Louisiana is a joke because of people like you.

But the big stink is that the schools and the parents wanted the day off on Friday which has been how it was for those who had 4 day weeks but the school board voted the day off on Monday

I wanna say Caldwell Parish does this or something similar but if you aren't at school on a friday you can't have football teams/sports stuff or something so they do monday. Someone will correct me, but it is something like that.

The counties on either side of mine here in GA are on 4 day weeks. The teachers work 5 days a week. Mondays are for remedial instruction help or student discipline cases.

The one thing going to 4 day weeks does is cut buses and their associated costs by 20% since they aren't running. Saves the two districts near me six figures annually.

Bingo.

They've talked about doing it here while utilizing community services (like the YMCA CEP programs) for childcare if needed on the non-instructional day.

Personally, I think it's good for education. The non-instructional day tends to lend to better planning during the week and a lot of staff in counties I've seen do it are able to bring in small groups of students for one on one extra service work.

What are they going to sue? Most school districts provide more days of required instruction than what they have to by state requirements. So your kid is still getting the minimal number of instructional days.

Or be a fricking parent. I'm SO TIRED of seeing the lack of personal responsibility from parents and communities. Suck it up. Make it work.

Sure, right after you tell basically every business in society they need to either shutdown an extra day a week or pay their employees for doing 20% less work.

Cut public school budgets by 20% and you can have a day off. Fair deal?

What are they getting out of school, besides taking up resources for other kids who want to learn?
