Which is dumb because the length of instruction today is already too long. Why do we make 1st graders sit through class for 8 hours a day but college students sit through at most 4 hours a day?
Because public education is nothing more than free daycare at this point. And I work in education.

Well if all the parents can swing it, great. It's not viable in most places with how things currently are.
The last thing the average family needs right now is figuring out how to pay for one day week of childcare to protect teachers from burnout

and the kids don't do any better during those 6 weeks
Was this supposed to make some kind of argument?

you're the one claiming the kids are going to be worse off going 4 days a week

How about instead break into quarter or trimester system and don't have a 3 month long summer break that disrupts building of learning and family patterns?
I don't know why Louisiana doesn't do the 3 month long break in the Spring or Fall when the weather is much nicer.
Kids these days don't want to be outside in July and August heat.

Probably because the parents work 8 hours a day, I guess.

Hey man, we had 56 in my graduating class at Midland! Lol give us a little more respect in the numbers than that! But honestly, I agree with your point. I grew up in the 4 day week system and there’s reasons it worked well for us. I can see if failing very very badly for these larger areas

Cool. Well then most places won't do it and you won't have to worry about it

I'd love to see where I said that

Good
We waste way too many resources on schools as it is.

The counties on either side of mine here in GA are on 4 day weeks. The teachers work 5 days a week. Mondays are for remedial instruction help or student discipline cases.
The one thing going to 4 day weeks does is cut buses and their associated costs by 20% since they aren't running. Saves the two districts near me six figures annually.
ETA: Monday was likely picked because most federal and state holidays fall on Monday.

They chose Monday as the day off LOL
Kids need to be in school 8-5 M-F.
Get them ready for the real world

But the geniuses on here act like this is the first and only parish in the state much less the country to do this and its never going to work

Preferably the entire system. Kids need 20 hours of school a week max and that can be done from home and/or remotely.

You didn't answer my question.

This is going to be rough on parents. Let's be honest the secondary purpose of school is to babysit kids while parents work.

Yep, family vacation options would expand greatly. There aren't too many drivable mild weather destinations in July. I'm tired of sweating on Gulf Coast beaches.
