Unit currently has a TopTech capacitor model TT-CAP-45/5/440. From what I can tell online, this one has been discontinued. Please recommend an equivalent/suitable replacement for this part.

Whereabouts you located? Parts shop near by? That's not an uncommon part. Be goddamn sure you discharge the old one before the removing it.
Discharge the new one also, just to be safe.

It is not uncommon at all. However, most of the vendors are 3rd party. That is not really a big deal, especially if we are talking about an older unit.

TT-CAP-45/5/440

just look on amazon for ac capacitor 45 5 440. As long as the numbers are the same, it should be fine. Most are round but I have seen some oval ones - that might affect how it fits, but either way you could probably rig it.

This is a good place for my AC PSA:
Go buy a spare capacitor for your AC units now. They're only a handful of dollars and can and will save you time and money when your current capacitor goes kaput.

That is what I am doing. House has two AC units. The other capacitor went out. I called an AC guy and when he showed up, I told him the capacitor was out. He charged me $79 to "diagnose" and $170 for capacitor. All he did was take old one off and put new one on, I already had unit opened up to access capacitor. Talk about getting fricked!!

170 for a capacitor? I could see $30... But anything more than that is a ripoff. I would raise hell about that.

Dual run cap for the fan & compressor - 45 microfarad for the compressor, 5 microfarad for the fan & 440 volt rating.

Any cap within 5% on the farad ratings will work fine but you must match the voltage so don't use a 370 volt one.

If you have a capacitor you have all the time in the world.

That cap at Acme Refrigeration costs $15. Post the name of who charged you $170, they deserve to get called out for that.

I was out of town one weekend and they did the same to my wife. i gave them hell when i got back and wrote bad reviews online. I googled the issue before he showed up and told my wife but she said "I already called him". So I told her to have him diagnose the issue and I'd fix it the next day when I was back.

Sure enough she let him change the capacitor and it was like $270 for literally 15 minutes of work and a $15 part. I was peeved at both the company and my wife. What made me mad is that our bedroom is downstairs and the kids upstairs so she could of made our daughters sleep downstairs for 1 night with 2 units one for up and one for down and save me $200.

That's shitty.

I'll bet the tech didn't check the refrigerant levels, check coils, drain lines,etc.....

I know they are not expensive, did not know Home Depot carried them but I have a supply place near the house.

brand don't matter, only make sure the microfarad rating is the same.

This , so much of this.

If you have aspare of each capacitor and maybe a spare contactor then you can fix the most common A/C issues right away.

What is a contactor?
