I’m digging all the downvotes from the neo-Confederates on here. It’s been 160 years and ya’ll are still not over this war.

It happens with every civil war thread. I'm embarrassed for some of these posters.

Is that why you're constantly posting threads about it?

Ooof.

Would be a good burn if you hadn't taken my post 100% out of context. Nice try though.

See...you're leaving out an important word from the phrase "get over it," thus making yourself an intellectually dishonest hack. That key word is "losing." Get over LOSING it. You can still find the conflict fascinating without crying over spilled milk.

I am a human being - printed on a sign held by a Black Man on the Selma March (1965)

Of all the pictures of Civil Rights marches in the sixties this one has stayed with me all these years. Why? Because it speaks of the dignity of the human person and his undeniable rights as a 'human being'.

This makes absolutely no sense.

My post that I'm angry about? What the hell does that even mean? Do you have any intelligence at all, either grammatical or logical? Do you have anything to add to this discussion other than your inane babbling and poor attempts at witty comebacks?

How about you stop trying to think of yourself as intelligent and go back to posting in the threads about boob pics?

I mean, yeah...

Abraham Lincoln needed to pivot and make the war about something else entirely. It wasn't enough to just preserve the Union. The North needed the moral high ground to keep Europe away from the conflict. And it worked.

It is very obvious that Lincoln was no fan of the practice of slavery. However, he was more of a moderate Republican in that he wasn't a fan of its outright abolition. He was definitely more in favor of gradual emancipation, a policy which angered the more progressive Republicans in the House and Senate.

You are not supposed to know about that....no one is supposed to know about that. Abe was part of a very elite society.

You know what gets me about this North vs South BS..

The undeniable Most Patriotic States in the Union for the “United States of America” is the Southern States even though they are supposed to be “still butt hurt” about the Civil War. Go figure

Truth?

Lincoln was anti-slavery, but he was no abolitionist. He didn't want slavery in Illinois because he, like the majority of Northerners, hated Black people. They were a threat to jobs and their culture.

Lincoln only signed the EP to try to change the war from one about money and power to some virtuous cause because the war wasn't going the way he promised it would.

The Northern abolitionists were no different than today's Northern democrats. That culture has been preserved in time. They wanted the slaves freed, but as long as the freed slaves weren't in their communities. Sounds familiar to a current day immigration crisis?

The Southern states even offered to pay for their share of federal property and national debt. The South wanted to just go their own way.

The most ironic thing to come out of the northern push for abolition was the establishment of the country of Liberia where the former slaves were sent and they promptly created a slave state in Africa with towns named after southern towns and giant plantation style homes kept up by local slaves commanded by their new masters, the former slaves.
