The Supreme Court disagrees.

My wife and I lost a DS child as a stillbirth during pregnancy. I still think about him all the time and wish he was here.
Good people. I'm sorry for your loss.

I would strongly consider it. You'd literally be taking care of a Downs child in every way imaginable for the entirety of their life.

my obeying the law comment was in response to him bringing up my views on pot use.
You said people who smoke pot are losers and that people who get abortions should die in a fire.

These never abortion people, what about the doctor tells you the baby 100% has no chance of survival more than a few months and those months will be pure hell on the baby physically?
not even remotely comparable, but yes, if the child would suffer greatly and there was 0% of survival, abortion would be an answer

However, it still wouldn't change how I proceed with the pregnancy. My two youngest siblings are mentally-challenged(not down's...but they can never live on their own because of their disabilities). While they don't lead the lives most adults their age lead because of it...they are both very happy, joyful people and I couldn't imagine them being killed in the womb just because they were not deemed "perfect enough".
I know its from a lack of understanding, but people (many) assume that people who have any type of disability can not have a "normal" life. And I assume that's why people decide to not have a child, if they find out the child will be born with some type of disability, but the thing that limits them the most usually comes down to the parents.
Parents who "victimize" their child, if he/she has a disability, will likely grow up thinking they can't do anything because they have some type of disability, etc, but in general, you have to allow children with disabilities learn how to find their way to adapt to the world. I am not really a die hard pro-lifer. I think people should try to avoid it at all cost, but I accept the fact that people do decide to do it, but I think its just cruel to decide to not have a child just because they are likely to be born with some type of disability.

I said people who support abortions should burn in hell. I told 1 specific person to diaf.

No.
I've known several people over the years at different ages with Down Syndrome. All of them were the nicest people you could imagine, and more often than not live full and happy lives.

That's sort of the same thing, right?

Have an upvote, Sir. My experience has been the same.

Devil's advocate, cause I'm on the fence about this.
Let's say you and your wife were later in years and would only be able to take care of the child for twenty years tops. Would that have any bearing on your decision? Or at the very least, would it make it more understandable to you for someone else to consider?
ETA follow up, what if it wasn't downs and it was something more debilitating?

It's a tough call. Deep down it wouldn't feel right.
