I'd hope mine wouldn't. Killing an unborn child is a 100% certainty. With everything else, there is a chance, however infinitesimal, that you're wrong.

I think DS is the toughest one to answer for most people. These never abortion people, what about the doctor tells you the baby 100% has no chance of survival more than a few months and those months will be pure hell on the baby physically? There are diseases out there they can pinpoint on early ultrasounds. Would your answer change? Just a simple discussing point

This is a situation where the wife and I would 100% get an abortion.

Its about quality of life for the child for us.

Oh well in that case you're a very level headed, reasonable person to have a discussion with.

I don't think this is a legal discussion since we all know what is allowable under the law.

The only question in this argument is do you think the government should force a woman to have a child if she doesn't want to carry it to term.

I see this reality at work frequently. Perfectly healthy toddler falls in pool, near drowning but lives. But extensive brain damage leaves the child a permanent toddler mentally.

There are no guarantees in life. When you become a parent(either by choice or because it was thrust on you unexpectedly or accidentally)...it's not about you anymore. It's about that child and caring for and protecting that child...no matter what.

What I've seen of most of the parents of disabled children....they make it work. I am always amazed at how patient and caring and loving these parents are with their children. Yes their lives are forever changed by these children....but from what I see...they wouldn't give up their child to have a more "normal life".

I would get several opinions and hit my knees HARD to pray for forgiveness for any pain I cause the baby in trying to give him/her a chance.

I dont think a lot of people understand just how much more expensive a Down syndrome child is compared to a normal child. All of the medical expenses, physical therapy, day time care for 30-40+ years would be insanely expensive.

When another person's life is in question, I find it in poor taste to discuss the economics of keeping them alive.

Not to be crude or anything but a better question would be "can a government" do that? I would imagine that illegal abortions would be pretty easily accessible and hard to prosecute.

You want marijuana to stay illegal and ban abortions. You really are a dumbass. Do you know where we get alot of vaccines from?

You've got every right to feel that way.

if it was early on, then yes. I'm pro-choice but don't think abortions should take place after the first trimester.

Absolutely not, my wife didn't have the tests done when pregnant because it doesn't matter. A child with Down's is just as much a blessing, just a different one from "normal" children. I hope any of my future children are as healthy as our first, but if they aren't, c'est la vie.

I get the logic to some extent, but I have an incredibly hard time drawing the line where NO life is better than some painful life. For instance, I would think making the decision to take a child off of life support is easier to swallow than aborting an unborn child, IMO.

If a machine is the only thing keeping you alive, and your prognosis is 100% imminent death, I can live with that choice, but I'm at least going to give you a chance to reach that point.

This thread is a prime example of why we need a secular government, and a SC that protects the rights of everyone. There is no difference between the right wing nuts and the ISIS.

You are aware that abortion is legal within the current laws and that your religion is irrelevant to that, right?

You are aware that God's laws transcend man's laws, correct? What do I care what man says is okay? I'll meet my maker one day and have to account for my decisions. If God saw fit to give me a child with physical challenges, who am I to turn it away?

Not in this country. You don't get to marry your rape victim no matter what God says.
