People need meaning in their life. Very few people accomplish things these days. Choosing which channel to watch is not an accomplishment. Put down the clicker and the smart phone and go DO something.

I disagree, i think people accomplish a lot. But I also think that in their minds, their "accomplishments" are inadequate, due to the amount of exposure they have to highly successful individuals.

gotta get miserable before you get right.

I love being miserable. The more miserable I am, the happier I am.

True. I'd much rather have to stand in a soup line or live on other people's refuse like those kids in Slumdog Millionaire.

It definitely makes me miserable when I ask the fiance where she wants to eat.

do you think they have an audio book option? Or the option where someone else reads it and briefly describes it to me?

Too much information. People should take a sabbatical from their myriad of devices and screens every day. Not just turning off Facebook. But the internet in general.

I like we can parlay our ideas together with this example.

Y’all pretty much have this covered but I’ld like to add that politics, religion and healthcare have become enormous mobs that negatively affects individuals by design.

Cue. I agree with your post tho. People spend too much time comparing themselves w others. It can be good motivation in the right context but as a way of living it is not a recipe for happiness.

There's a very basic principle in child development that when they're 3 or 4 years old you start teaching them to make choices. You don't ask them what clothes they want to wear that day. You put two outfits on the bed and ask them to pick one. It's avoids overstimulating the brain causing them to have unwanted anxiety.

The same thing applies to us as adults. Too many choices is not good for anyone's mental health. Think about how you feel when you sit down at a restaurant and the menu has 1 side of good entrees as opposed to a 5 page menu full of mediocre entrees. At some point while paging through the 5 page menu your brain just says frick it and you either make a poor choice or you spend 20 minutes trying to choose something, get aggravated and order the cheeseburger. We're not made up like that.

That isn’t the issue.

It is a lack of purpose in their lives.

There is no challenge to life in 1st world countries.

Why is depression and suicide so much higher within affluent communities?
