The only thing I remember it was a red brick building and half the DA’s office was in there on Friday nights drinking fishbowls...LOL

The library is across the street on the corner of St Louis and N Blvd

It was also a time, when despite unbelievable depredations forced on them by racist white society, they still prevailed and had rewarding family and spiritual lives. The black family was intact and though they were oppressed with ignorance and violence they still got the basics of life correct and led rewarding lives.
Is that the case now ?

Its a very interesting rendering. but not at all that accurate. From that angle you should see the Old State Capital "The State House" behind the monument as it was completed in 1852. The Building shown in the background is definitely this the State House.
This photographic view is from an elevated spot roughly the same angle as the OPs rendering. Also North Blvd fades into nothing, I would imagine the River would have been much more visible from that vantage point in 1907.

The rendering is looking East not West, the City Club is on the left or the north side of N Blvd.

The brutalist style architecture that many of the govt buildings utilize is absolutely garbage.
How anyone can look at brutalist architecture and think “oh that’s a nice looking building” is beyond me.
> It's not just government buildings, it's most commercial buildings these days.
The wife and I were in Philly last week and the soul and personality in the architecture in those older buildings is blinding in its glaring contrast to what we see with most modern construction. Give me some crenelations, spires, carvings, statues, hell even some flying buttresses, anything but the bland lack of style so popular among builders these days.

where is the cap one building?
The Capital One Building was built mid 70's for Louisiana National Bank. The second building was built around 1984-85 as LNB 2.

It has a side window for black people to buy beer and packaged liquor. They weren't allowed inside.
Did ya'll ever play at Tiger Lair in Tigerland? I remember your band and the Dick Nixon's.
I also remember Freeze and Isosceles Popsicle and Michael Noto's band Stormy.

You can see the City Club.
Yep. That’s old building has some history. It was first used as the Federal Courthouse in Baton Rouge. Then eventually became a post office. City Club was formed in the 50’s and took possession from the government for very cheap in a shady business deal involving the original Cith Clum members. City Club didn’t allow woman in the first floor bar/restaurant until around 1980. First black man became a member about 10-12 years ago. It’s been remodeled and added on to several times and it’s a really nice atmosphere for dinners or large receptions. The 3rd floor a private barbershop for a long time but now is a really cool spot for small groups to gather for business deals and such.

I'll be damned. That's exactly right. I got all twisted up. That is the City Club of Baton Rouge.

That was the only landmark I recognized. That is a real monumental structure, and it still looks cool.

Correct.
ON the eastern side of the City Club is what is now City Plaza 1/Whitney Bank.
Capital One (former American Bank building) is at the corner of North STREET and 3rd (not North Boulevard)
