Probably slid and rolled.

Recently took my two boys to the NC mountains for some hiking.
A man just died this Sunday when he fell off an overlook at Grandfather Mountain off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Huge tourist destination in which you pay to enter and walk across the “Mile High Bridge”. We waited 30 minutes in traffic just to get past the entrance on Sunday. I’m sure it was caused by taking a photo.

It was most likely off a series of ledges for a total of 90'.

I've ridden that train multiple times. The canyon is very remote, steep and rugged. She's lucky to be alive.

I am trying to figure out where she was exactly, because there is a foot bridge that crosses the animas in the area I think they're describing - just down from molas lake. wonder why they crossed the river and roped her across instead of just using the trail and bridge.

Henry was able to stop and communicate with the woman on the opposite bank of the Animas River, which was freezing cold and moving quickly.

Wait, was it ice, or moving quickly?

This is the kind of person who hikes completely unprepared and solo. When I hike I always have my day pack, 3 liter water bladder, mini first-aid kit, couple of Mylar blankets and snacks/energy bars.

She is lucky she only got cold. They are getting some snow out there in the area now and the temps are a lot lower. My security cam in Telluride says it is currently 23. Overnight it would have been bad to be out with no resources.

That's why even on a day hike I carry a fire starter in the mountains.

Darwin was trying, but somehow Good Samaritans saved her dumb arse.

Hope she doesn’t procreate more retards.

What happens when it stops responding? Do you have to steer your vette over there to restart it?

Always wanted to take that train. Stops in middle of nowhere to let out hikers.

There are talus slopes from one cliff until the drop off to the next. Dry climate, no understory roots to hold the rocks in place. Knock one rock lose at the top of a mountain and watch it bounce all the way down.

That train ride is beautiful any time of the year, and the Animas River is wild looking. It must be low this time of the year, I can't imagine anyone wading across that river if the water were higher than two or three feet.

I read about this locally. I understand she was on the east side bank near Elk Park. Depending on how far downstream of Elk Park she was, the river tucks into the cliff and there is no bank.

I've forded the Animas a few times. Lots of sections will absolutely kill you, but there are safe crossings.

I wondered why they didn't use one of them?

It's a cool service. Done it a few times. Asian tourists take photos of you and your pack like it's a theme park.
Saves many miles of hiking to get into areas like Chicago Basin, The Needles, and the Grenadiers.

It's also 200 ft wide Max. You could spot a tick in that Canyon on the outer side.

Kudos to the rider who was able to assess that the woman was waving for help, and not just waving at the train passing by.

No kidding. I've gotten so numb to "urban campers" and panhandlers that I probably would've just waved back if I even noticed.
